Excessive speed caused Tiger Woods’ Palos Verdes area crash, L.A. County sheriff says
KTLA ^ | Apr 7, 2021 / 11:29 AM PDT

Woods’ SUV was traveling between 84 and 87 mph — nearly twice the posted speed limit — when it struck a raised median, Villanueva said.

The vehicle was still traveling at about 75 mph as it then careened into a nearby tree in the area of Hawthorne Boulevard and Blackhorse Road.

Sheriff’s Capt. James Powers said there was no evidence that the golfer braked throughout the wreck and that it’s believed Woods inadvertently hit the accelerator instead of the brake pedal.

His putting is terrific, but his driving could use a lot of improvement.

All kidding aside, prayers for a complete recovery for Tiger.

“...inadvertently hit the accelerator instead of the brake pedal.”

That’s what I’m going to tell the cop next time I get pulled. Think it’ll work?

I went off the road 10 years ago and wrecked my car. I was cited for failure to control and I was the only car involved and no one saw it.

Of course I am a peon.

Must be nice to be a privileged one. I don’t buy the story for a second.

.....that it’s believed Woods inadvertently hit the accelerator instead of the brake pedal.

If that's what he told them, he needs to improve his lie........

Excessive use of ‘speed’ or excessive use of ‘speedballs?’ I’m sure we’ll never know.

No brake/skid marks along the route to the crash? 75 MPH, pedal to the metal, heading straight for a tree? Suicide attempt?

That guy has been nutty as a fruitcake for a long while; I was on his wife’s side when she found all the phone ‘sexting’ and went after him with one of his own golf clubs.

Now THAT is Karma, LOL!

If Tiger were a stand up guy, like say Nicklaus, he would get on his crutches and hobble up to a mic and tell his side of the event as he recalls it.

Yeah, this seems odd to me also. They have the speed recorded, but maybe they can’t give a speeding ticket unless they recorded speeding as it happened. But careless driving or failure to control seems called for. Maybe they figure he’ll just get a lawyer and appeal it forever.

He’s very lucky he didn’t kill anyone driving/riding/walking while crossing the median and opposite lanes at 83 mph.

No one with a brain would do that and I’m sure he’s been told by counsel to shut up, which is his right.

No punishment can equal the one he has now. For him not being able to play again will be quite depressing for him.

He had none and no pills either. It was a cluster screw up and only Tiger is to blame.

I think we should all be considering buying one of these Genesis SUV’s. The fact that he survived a 75-85 mph impact with a tree is a testament to the design/safety systems of this automobile.

In Virginia that will get you a reckless driving ticket. A Class 1 misdemeanor, punishable by up to 1 year in jail and/or a $2500 fine.

Fortunately for him the cops didn’t get a blood test.

Probably had nothing to do with the large anonymous mysterious donation to the local police benevolent fund made a few minutes after the crash.
