On Tuesday, though, diplomats from Washington to Beijing will be watching carefully as Greenland holds snap parliamentary polls. With a total of population of just 56,000, its electorate is smaller than some British town councils – yet their vote over the vexed issue of the Kvanefjeld mine project could have implications not just for Greenland, but the global superpower race. Overlooking the tiny fishing settlement of Narsaq, where locals live mainly off catching whales and seals, the project aims to tap into one of world's biggest deposits of "rare earth" minerals - materials as vital to the 21st-century as oil was to the 20th.

Thank Trump for making this an issue-I love it. These folks are better off with us but they're indigenous. The Chicoms already have their foot in the door. We would have to guarantee not to contaminate their culture/livelihoods-doable? I think so but the Chicoms have a billion + people to serve-disperse. I would offer to let the folks live their separate lives and offer them an opportunity to bring 4+ children into the world per couple. No money worries.

We could have bought Greenland by giving each resident a million dollars to vote to join the U.S.

Not a State, just a commonwealth like Puerto Rico.

I’ve been saying Buy Greenland since Trump suggested it. It would have been just as good as Alaska in the long run.

And, they’re all related. They’re actually the definition of a clan. A great place to study genetics.

I think it’s doable. The Chicoms would be looking for a place to park thousands of their (excess)workers. We would bring in the technology, offer the young folks a high-end education(local + technical) and they could run the place someday.

This would be a modern day Louisiana purchase.

China doesn't have the capability, in that particular environment, to harvest Greenland's resources.

They will claim it only to take it away from the U.S. and then hope to later steal (or be given it to them by Biden) our technology and then destroy the land because they don't care about balancing the sensitive environment like we would.
