The buzz about Don McLean was that the Roberta Flack song “Killing me Softly” was about him.

“American Pie” has always been one of radio’s best songs, (It always gave jocks time to hit the bathroom and a vending machine on the way back to the studio.) I think “Vincent” is by far Don McLean’s best work. Too bad it doesn’t get the airplay it deserves.

First singer to sing "Killing Me Softly With His Song".

Lori Lieberman

"Lori Lieberman (born November 15, 1951) is an American singer-songwriter who accompanies herself on guitar and piano. She first came to public attention in the early 1970s with a series of albums on Capitol Records, one of which featured the first recording of "Killing Me Softly with His Song". After a long gap, she resumed her recording career in the mid-1990s.[1] "

BTW, written about Don McClean but not by Lori.
