Maskless [65 year old] woman arrested in Galveston day after mandate lifted

GALVESTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Just a day after Texas rolled back COVID-19 restrictions, including those mandating face coverings in public, a woman's arrest has emerged stemming from her refusal to wear a mask.

Body camera footage released by Galveston police shows officers confronting the woman inside a Bank of America branch on Central City Boulevard. Advertisement

The footage, taken on Thursday, begins with an officer being directed by a bank manager to the woman. The officer encounters the woman who expresses frustration over being told to wear a mask, invoking the state's lifted mandate.

However, the officer is heard reminding the woman that businesses can refuse service to anyone that does not comply with masking policies, which is something that Gov. Greg Abbott still allowed.

After the woman said she wants to take her money out from the bank, the officer tells her to go get a mask and come back to do so.

With the woman giving pushback, the officer says, "Ma'am, listen, we can do this the easy way or the hard way."

"What are you going to do? Arrest me?" she asks. "That's hilarious."

The confrontation escalates with the woman raising her voice at other bank customers, and that's when it becomes physical.

The woman is taken down to the ground and arrested.

You can watch the full encounter in the video player above.

Police identified the woman as 65-year-old Terry White, who was arrested on a charge of resisting arrest and criminal trespass. Officers added she sustained minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

It’s just a mask! Just be obedient and do as you’re told and you can be free.

What the big deal, right?/s

I hate Bank of America and those like them who I feel will still have rules of masks or don’t come in just to satisfy the left who if the truth were known wants us in masks till the cows come home!! IMHO this is an outrage!

“What the big deal, right?/s”

businesses can refuse service for no mask.

after that, it’s trespassing, just like no shoes in a restaurant.

Traditionally in Texas law enforcement frowned upon people who used masks to make bank withdrawals.

How times have changed.

Government and business are tied at the hip and Greg Abbott and Ken Paxton have their noses up the ...hole of business.

They do have control over her money. I doubt that when she signed up having to wear a mask to withdraw your money from a bank legally was even an idea in anyone’s head.

A cop that takes down a 65 year old woman in my family, will get a visit in the night.

Businesses can refuse. But her money is in there and she has a right to withdraw. So I’m torn on this. Anyway I obviously think the bank rule is idiotic.

I hope she sues their pants off. It’s her money.

For hundreds of years, cops would get you if you wore a mask in a bank. For hundreds of days, reality has been reversed.

If I were her I’d sue the hell out of that bank. Not good optics for the cops or the bank. Both were unprofessional for letting it escalate.

Events like this will lead to people like us hearing the left screech “DEFUND THE POLICE!” and saying “meh, whatever.”

Businesses can set mask rules and ask you to leave and if you don’t, they call it trespassing.

...or, seeing a police officer being assaulted, and wagering amongst ourselves on the outcome.

I agree that businesses should be able to decide the terms upon which they’ll do business. However, she can’t even CEASE to do business with them without kowtowing to their mask worship. They have the right to say “take your business elsewhere if you don’t want to wear a mask”, but she can’t do that without wearing the stupid mask.

Bank of America... same bank that reported transactions in the DC area to the FBI after Jan 6.

Nothing I’ve seen tops the lady getting tazed at her son’s football game by a rent-a-cop.

But her money is in there and she has a right to withdraw.

Online banking, wire transfers, paper checks, ATMs (but that can take a number of days) come to mind.

And for those who shout "credit unions" - some of those around here have had their doors locked for months. Drive up tellers have been about the only way to deal with them, and they sometimes shut down that service at a branch for a few days.

The only times I've been in a bank in person in a good while have been to deposit checks (I want to walk away with a printed receipt) or visit a safe deposit box.

How times have changed.
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
That ‘2 weeks’ has turned into a year
BUT

It seems like yesterday that if you and I went into the bank in close proximity and you were masked, the long arm would come down on you.
Today, in the same situation, I get harassed for NOT having a mask on.

Also, I am not a hugger and/or an avid handshaker, so it used to be that when I ‘demanded’ you maintain an ‘arms length’ from me, I was considered a social pariah.

Now they mandate 6 feet....

Go figure...

I suppose if businesses can set their own rules,
they theoretically could ask you to hop on one leg
while you are on their premises?
