The U.S. Soccer Federation's National Council on Saturday voted to repeal its policy requiring players to stand for the national anthem, according to reports. The USSF board of directors scrapped the policy last year, but it still required the approval of the council.

ESPN.com and France24 report the decision was approved by 71% of the council.

ESPN reports most of the comments at Saturday's virtual meeting of the council were against repealing the ban. USSF president Cindy Parlow reportedly told the group that the policy was not intended to disrespect the flag or military.

"This is about the athletes' and our staff's right to peacefully protest racial inequalities and police brutality," she said, according to ESPN. "So I urge our membership to please support our staff and our athletes on this policy."

It is official now...US Soccer Federation has absolutely no problem if some US National Team player refuses to stand during National Anthem...

US Soccer Federation is a non-profit organization claiming to represent United States in international soccer competitions...

US Soccer Federation is not worthy of support from American people if the Federation has no problem with its employees disrespecting America...National team players get paid by US Soccer Federation when they play in international competitions...

I think Federation President Cindy Parlow was a good soccer player when she played for the US Women's National Team...I think she is wrong on this issue...About kneeling during national anthem...Unlike Ms. Parlow, I believe that kneeling players are disrespecting the country...

What should conservative parents do if they have kids who really like US national soccer teams? They should explain to their kids why they will not buy them US national team soccer jerseys...

What should conservative parents do if they have kids who really like US national soccer teams?

1. Tell the kids to like another (better) sport — like hockey.

2. Tell them to follow other national teams. You’ll never see a hockey player from Finland or Slovakia kneeling for THEIR national anthems.

Maybe I’ll just go find a couple of sponsors and divest from their products. Get a few hundred thousand to do the same thing and standing will be put back in.

I guess my soccer boycott will continue.

Soccer players won't play unless they get their way. Such an easy solution.

They can learn to code.

That Council is behind the curve. Just last week, I read about a women’s pro-soccer team saying that they are done with the kneeling and are ready to move on from that public expression. Might be too late to influence many American soccer fans.

You are absolutely right....this decision just loads the camel’s back to near failure. Obviously there are zero competent marketing personnel in the soccer “business”. The sports world seems to be determined to consistently p...off at least half of their customers.

Soccer isn't an American sport, so this comes as no surprise.

It's about as American as sumo.

How queer that the outrage is ONLY over the US anthem.

No other nation bought or sold slaves?

No other nation has human rights violations?
