Former President Obama ushered in the previous low in 2012, winning re-election with just 689 counties, or 22 per cent – breaking his own record set in 2008, where he won with 875 counties, or 28 per cent.
Obama cheated, too.
For the 2012 election, definitely. I don't believe Romney "threw" it; I think he was genuinely surprised at the results.

This is why eliminating The Electoral College would be a disaster for this country. A handful of highly populated cities could dictate their will onto the entire country.
As if they're not already doing that. But abolishing the EC would make it a whole lot easier on them.
