I was very happy to visit Karakorum and see for myself the seat of the empire that Chinggis Khan founded.
There are many artistic representations of Chinggis Khan, but, as my guide told me, no one knows what he really looked like.
Mongolia closed its borders as soon as Covid-19 hit. It is one of the least affected countries. They only had 1,989 cases and two deaths. (See, I can also bring Covid-19 into a discussion of Chinggis Khan.) When the crisis is over and Mongolia reopens its borders, it is definitely worth visiting.
“Chinggis” is what the Mongolians call him.
Việt Nam apparently had no cases until August and got panicky when they had a few. I think there are still very few. The country is pretty sealed off, though. I can’t get there. I wish I had gone just before they closed up way back in the beginning.
