Booting up your new phone and going through everything in there is always a special experience, but this ritual is often soured by the presence of bloatware and unnecessary third-party apps.

Not very techie here. My android has all kind of preloaded junk apps which I have no intention of using and ignore. Should I remove them? Are they harmless or can they datamine just by their presence?

Who buys an Android phone that has Facebook preinstalled? Is that something that Samsung does? I have never had an Android phone with it preinstalled. I don’t buy Samsung phones though.

I haven’t had an Android phone in a few years but I used to root my Androids then delete the bloat ware.

I understand that rooting a phone is an elaborate process, but can you recommend a reliable resource for instruction on how to do it?

In case you want to get rid of Facebook but your android phone won't let you.

Did someone ask you or are you just assuming people need to know this?

It all depends on the manufacturer, version of the OS and more. Remember, do it at your own risk...however, I have done it wrong before and the worst was reinstalling everything after fulll erase. Also, it voids your warranty..

This is going to sound odd - mine just upped & disappeared!!

Android phone & poof! Gone. I don’t know how it happened & it’s not anywhere in the apps settings section.

Yep, I’ve been banned from FB for 30 days; and I still have groups on there that I admin that are NOT political in nature. I’m seeing alternatives now.

Anybody reading this - suggestions on a platform that could hold 25,000 people potentially and let us weed out those who are living in a foreign country? You guessed it, not a political group BUT these are for Americans only.

The methods described in the article do not involve rooting your phone and do not void your warranty.

Samsung phones come with facebook preinstalled and you can’t easily delete it. Most apps can be deleted in the settings app, but some don’t offer an uninstall option.

I was able to uninstall the upgraded Facebook but the phone then reinstalled the factory version. Have to use the ADB method to truly rid the phone of Facebook.

A lot of apps come pre-loaded and you can’t delete them, but you can turn some of them off.
