It's not the show but the nature of the industry. I have alot of friends / acquaintances in the fishing industry and havent been surprised when I hear someone has died due to drugs or alcohol abuse or, in two cases, suicide.
Will be attributed to COVID regardless of the cause.
First US Crab boat was fisheries pioneer George Futon
It seemed way over the top. I’m from Long Island Catholic girls high school, war veteran and have been around fighter squadrons. No stranger to foul language. This is of a different level
“The cause of death has not been determined. “
Covid.
Was he driving an RV when he died?
The monotony of the job, the long uneventful hours on the water followed by life risking chaos are not recommended for someone who may already be prone to clinical depression.
One of my grandfathers had a fishing job. A much downsized version of this kind of work. He was known for hard drinking and frequent fighting for any sort of reason.
The local cops preferred not to mess with him if they had any choice, as he was a good bareknucked fighter, who frankly did not give a damn. It was a simpler world back then, some eighty years ago in Pensacola, Florida.
Arggg..crabb’n be a fickle mistress.
“I saw a boat captain On that show use the most foul language on camera it was disturbing. Something way off. Never watched it again that was like 10 years ago”
Let me give you a tip, DO NOT watch Gold Rush, or Gold Rush “White Water”
In with another Covid death.
On a serious note my condolences go out to his family.
Thanks for the tip.
Need picture to confirm who is being discussed.
Must have been Wild Bill or Sig Hansen LOL
Nick will be missed as deck boss...Condolences to family and crews
If the cause of death is undermined, that might be a clue.

Call me a skeptic (or realist) but my money on BeerFlu will get the call....

There were only three of us on the boat and me and the other guy, a high school student, took our lead from the boss, who had been fishing likely all his life. Since I worked only one summer on one boat, I have no idea how things worked on other boats but your post made me wonder if it was a ‘commercial fishing boat cultural thing’.
Or otherwise came to a bad ending.
Sad. RIP.
I know and knew some fishermen out of Gloucester Ma if they are not fishing many are drinking, smoking or tooting something.
They are a rugged bunch, the language just comes with the pkg.
Don’t like it don’t participate, that simple.
PS: Clammers make fishermen look like saints ya may want to avoid them also.
