Squirrel in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, accidentally ate a fermented pear and became intoxicated
She said the squirrel appeared healthy the next morning, arriving for a 'hangover breakfast of seeds and corn
'I found a very old bag of pears in the bottom. Instead of throwing them away, I threw two onto our deck for Hamlet,' said Kathleen, referring to the family's pet pig.
Fortunately, the squirrel arrived outside the home the next morning for a 'hangover breakfast.'
'He is back to his normal self and is back at the feeder daily,' Kathleen said.

Every summer we sit and watch critters get drunk from eating fermented pears that fall from our trees. Squirrels, deer, foxes, crows, you name it. It’s quite entertaining.
My girlfriend in the 80’s had a big jar of fermenting peaches that were quite alcoholic. Great on ice cream!
This happened to one of my Irish Wolfhounds. Clare loved apples. She picked them from the trees and ate the apples she found on the ground.
The apples that were fermented caused a problem...ethanol toxicosis...which screwed up her heart.
Moral of the story: Keep your dogs away from fermented fruit.
I was in a park on 71st and Collins Ave. The parrots were eating the seagrapes off the ground. Funniest thing I’ve ever seen. The were waddling around, falling over, dive bombing the crows, I never laughed so hard!
I had a chocolate lab that loved apples.
He wouldn’t eat them off the ground.
I had to cut them into slices or he wouldn’t eat them.
Birds are funny when they get drunk. Can’t really fly, landing on branches doesn’t tend to work very well. It sounds like it makes parrots mighty cocky. LOL
I get a kick out of watching fawns. Their long spindly legs seem to turn to rubber.

We have Australian Shepherds and a hundred year old farmhouse ,the old farmer planted many fruit trees.
Some years we have incredible volumes of apples, pears mulberries... after a strong summer wind and a few days of sun, you can smell the fermentaion working.
They do not remain long because every critter in DuPage County stops by in the evening for a free meal.
I set up a security camera just to watch and enjoy them.
The dogs do enjoy the apples and all this time I just thought they were naturally nutty; now the possibility they running out for some hard cider? Australian Shepherds are a clever lot.
No more Frisbee in apple season, the jumps could get out of hand?
Perhaps a breathalyzer would work?
Safe from the apples this past year, a very meager crop.
We will keep them away when the apples return.

There’s a tree in Africa (can’t recall its name) that bears fruit which,if left on the ground for awhile,ferments. Elephants,monkey and other African animals love the fruit and there are videos on youtube showing them tipsy after eating it.
I was visiting a house on a small lake. They had problems with Canadian Geese coming onto the yard.
So, they soaked cans of corn in vodka for a while then fed it to the geese. They got hammered, fought with each other, then bad hangover. They no longer step foot on the lawn.
