So should we work away from a 2 party system, to a 3 party system?

I don’t know all the history of the Whig Party. But I do know that the Republican party arose at the same time as the Whigs dissolved. So the Republicans were never a 3rd political party as such, they rather took the place of a party which disintegrated. Many early Republicans had been Whigs.

So I’m thinking if this happened, that the Republican party as we know it would go away, to be replaced by this new party as the 2nd party. The way our system is set up, with the electoral college, and presidential elections settled by the House if no candidate has a majority of electoral votes, I can’t see America having more than 2 major parties at a time.

The goal would be to fracture BOTH parties- one at a time. A new party would be mostly comprised of Independents (a lot of Democrats who have Walked Away from their party and voted for Trump) and fed up former Republicans. The spark would be to see at least 25% of current GOP office holders make a unified press announcement that they’re walking way from the GOP and joining the new party. Then, as the Democrats get more and more extreme- you’ll finally have the Globists join with Establishment GOP types like Romney, Linda, Flake, etc and the extreme Left taken over by AOC and Omar. The new party would get the plurality of the rest. in one or two election cycles we can see 40% New Party, 30% Dem, 30% GOP.
