Her ancestry has NOTHING to do with the experience of the descendants of African slaves imported to the continental United States.
Her father was Jamaican, of mixed race, one side of the family owning the slaves, and one side of the family being Jamaican slaves. Her mother was of the Tamil people of India, with a genealogy that stretched back at least 2,000 years. Her own birth is based on being an “anchor baby”, born of parents neither one of whom were of US citizenship at the time.
Truly, a citizen of the world. But American? Not so much.
