The local NAACP chapter has called on Lafayette Consolidated Government to re-instate the park police department.
Two teenagers who died in a shooting at an unauthorized party at Moore Park this weekend might still be alive if the park police were still operating, said Marja Lyn Broussard, president of Lafayette's NAACP chapter.
Broussard said a police officer was called to a party of 200-300 youth at the park. She said her group was told the party had no permit, and wouldn't have been given a permit. She said Park Police, before they were disbanded by Mayor-President Josh Guillory, kept tabs on social media and took steps to break up unauthorized parties at local parks.
"This is a community issue," Broussard said. "We are working to address the culture within our youth, to use guns to vent anger, but we need the Mayor President and law enforcement to do their part."

The City Police patrol the city parks, but the NAACP seems to think the Park Police would do a better job of stopping murders.

In a sense, the NAACP is asking for more Police, just not 'regular police' such as City Police Officers...
Yes, what about those youth who use guns to vent anger? That is a bigger problem than the quantity of police at a public park.

As a distant observer, I can’t fathom how confused, contradictory and irresponsible the left and democrats are.

So does this mean ‘black lives’ only matter when police are around?
And when ‘bad stuff’ happens without police around it’s the fault of police for not being around?

A no-win situation. Had the Park Police come out to break the party up it would have been reported as a racist assault on black youth, and the rioting and looting would have followed.
The compromise is obvious: park social workers.
Yes, I think that “bad stuff” happening, is the fault of police, for not being there to prevent the bad actions.
I’ve heard such reasoning before, on other topics.
I remember, years ago, in the Washington, DC area, a major shopping mall, Landover Mall, had a problem with gang types and assorted trouble makers scaring off shoppers from the mall.
And at that time, black activist types charged that the mall was going downhill because the owners of the mall weren’t maintaining adequate security there.
The activists didn’t have anything to say about the criminal element at that mall. Instead, they said the problem at the mall, was that the owners did not mobilize an adequate security presence to deter the gang types who were at that mall.
Or does "defund the police" mean only defund the police for everyone else and not for us because we need the police to stop criminals and rioters creating mayhem in our cities and neighborhoods?
These Leftist are being too cute by half in attempting to get rid of the police. None of them want the police until....wait for it.....they need the police.
