Do they ever ask these people when they take them into custody where they bought the drugs so they can follow a trail back to the guy at the top?

of course they ask— most say -”a guy gave it to me- I do not know his name”
true story- my wife worked in probation, she had to watch
through a oneway mirror while people on probation came in to urinate (women of course)— and the probationers ARE TOLD they will be watched- she had a “client” pee- then that probationer proceeded to RUN A LINE of cocaine on the sink! back to jail - slap on the wrist- back to probation— oh well
