He thinks he can draw Establishment money and support, and maybe do okay in New Hampshire. If there are a raft full of more conservative candidates (Pence, Cruz, Noem), he could pick up some delegates, maybe get consideration for VP, or prep himself for 2028.

I like your thinking. The list of actual conservative Republican politicians with the
cojones to stand up to the inevitable media assault without going squishy is a very short one, practically nonexistent. Most Republican politicians are squishes even before the media gets their knives into them.
But it all depends how 2020 goes. If it goes bad, the Republican party will unconditionally surrender on all fronts, and the next conservative they nominate for anything will happen in some other millennium.
