I was hiking in the Cascades up on the WA state and B.C. border and rounded a sharp blind corner on a cliff side. Right there 10 ft away was a black bear and I scared him as much as he scared me. Thank GOD he bolted and ran because I had very few options and was about ready to unload in my shorts.
I came around the corner in the Michigan woods one summer day. The bear and I saw each other at the same time. We both screamed and ran away - in opposite directions, fortunately.
