If you want to get really picky, the author does not state that the statue was carved from bronze. The article says the statue was carved, and that the material it’s made of is bronze. Which if the original pattern was carved from beeswax, which is likely, then that that’s true. However it would have been better had the author chosen “cast” instead of “carved” since no doubt that’s how the final figure was produced.
