“Seattle Police declared the ongoing protest an unlawful assembly...”

This seems to be the latest policing fad — they have to use a PA system to “declare an unlawful assembly.” Why not just skip that silly formality and start cracking heads open?

I imagine that requirement comes from the namby-pamby ultra-leftist city councils.

In Portland, they will make that declaration ten to fifteen times before doing anything. It’s like the parent making the hollow threat to the unruly kid — “If you do that just one more time, I’ll...I’ll...paddle your bottom so hard you won’t sit down for a week.”

The requirement that local authorities formally warn a group to disperse, or be deemed an unlawful assembly, has been around for over 300 years. It was signed into law by this guy:
