“Two defendants were sentenced Wednesday to 20 years...”

“On July 3, 2019, ... found guilty...”

Dumb question - Today is September 11, 2020. So why if they were found guilty on July 3rd of LAST YEAR are they sentenced two days ago?

Are our courts THAT slow? Can someone explain in layman’s terms?

No legal experience here, but Covid-19 would have extended whatever delay was in place originally.

Mebe perps attorney gets time to assemble reasons why perp should get minimal or certain prison over others?
