It is difficult to rollback the Odometers but the tools are out there, so maybe someone took 10k off. It’d be difficult to tell the difference and frankly, 10k is nothing.

A car with 4k miles should be pretty immaculate. You should see no wear on anything. Knobs, pedals, seats, seat belts, etc.

That said, I bought a car from a dealer with 6k miles on it and the brakes were a pulsing mess. Brakes pulse because someone did a hard stop and kept their foot on the pedal. Doing this transfer pad material to the rotor where it stays and becomes a pulse. It only takes one hard stop.

If you ever do a very hard stop and are at a light or something, take your foot off the brake and put it in park or set the e-brake. This will help prevent a transfer of pad material.

Yep, and that also helps cool the transmission oil a bit by disengaging the gears, allowing them to cool somewhat. In addition, if you're stopped at the intersection limit line, first up at pole position, waiting for a green light, putting the vehicle in park and activating the emergency brake can save your life. There has been many case of cars first up at the limit line, being rear ended, pushing them right into the cross traffic at the intersection...

I don’t know where you got that info but Brake Pads only get “wear and tear” when the Brakes are being used (by stepping on the pedal) OR one or part of one Caliper is “Dragging” that is mostly caused by what I call Vericose Brake Line in the flexible Brake Hose(s) close up inside causing the caliper to keep the Pads dragging on the Rotor (just like Vericose Veins). Now that pulsing you feel in the pedal is 1) the ABS Anti-Lock Brake System working like it should OR 2) the Brake Rotors are warped and the feeling is Brake Fluid feed back to the Pedal.

Brakes pulse because someone did a hard stop and kept their foot on the pedal. Doing this transfer pad material to the rotor where it stays and becomes a pulse.

Wrong- the cause is heavy braking several times and holding pressure by staying on the pedal Will create a Hot Spot on the Rotor and Warp the Rotor. This can also make the Steering Wheel shake. Brake Pads leave dust that will collect around the Calipers and the inside of the Wheels but where the Pads are in contact will be clean but there’s dust all around.

I have done Thousands of Brake System repairs over the last 40+ years on anything from VW Bugs, Chevrolet, Jaguars to Rolls Royce and Utility ,Cattle Trailers, FedEx Vans and Trucks on Vehicles from the early 1900’s to 2018.

I spent 18+ years selling Auto & Truck Parts and another 16 turning wrenches for a Living.
