The F-35 still has hundreds of problems the Pentagon has no plans on fixing

The beleaguered F-35 Joint Strike Fighter is still suffering from hundreds of unresolved design flaws, according to a new report from a non-governmental watchdog, dozens of which the Defense Department has "no plan" to ever correct.

The Joint Strike Fighter Program Office’s Deficiency Report Metrics, dated Feb. 28 and obtained by the Project On Government Oversight, indicates that the Pentagon is still dealing with roughly 883 design flaws, more than half of which remain "open, in dispute."

This designation means that "pilots or engineers believed they found a problem, but the contractors tasked with fixing the problems are claiming no problem exists," according to POGO.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. Why won't these problems be fixed? Part of the answer lies in the Pentagon itself where there is no WiFi, no cell phone service, such that the Pentagon has become a shrine to antiquated technology where creative thinking goes to die

Meanwhile, 3 years after the Fitzgerald and McCain collisions, the Navy’s surface warfare community shows few signs of change

Not stopping there, the US Navy is on to another potential boondoggle: Not content with F-35 debacle, the Navy is now working on a brand new fighter jet

Pictured is a concept of both F/A-XXs, a sixth-generation carrier-based fighter. Both because, given the extreme costs and likelihood of major problems, only 2 can be built /s

Ignored, at least publicly, is the vast Chinese commercial fishing fleet, now in the process of raping the Galapagos, Ecuador. Hundreds of Chinese fishing boats lurking off South America add to fears about a future war for fish

Excerpt: U.S. Coast Guard Capt. Jay Caputo warned in a 2017 article that political battles may be replaced by fights over resources, particularly fish. A year later, US Coast Guard Cmdr. Kate Higgins-Bloom wrote that "the odds that a squabble over fishing rights could turn into a major armed conflict are rising."

I thought I heard or read somewhere that the Israeli Air Force had fixed the problems with that plane when they bought several of them.

The oldest warfare on planet Earth stems from contested food and water resources. Even birds and bees do it.

Defense companies are not run by people who care or marvel at the machines they make. Every engineering task is metered out and engineers do not congregate together and discuss and argue what they are building. The people who care are neutered and the people running the showdo really care

The US has fixed problems too, but hundreds remain many of which here are no plans to fix. What Israel chooses to fix is their choice - fixed enough to carry out a mission, or fixed enough to fulfill the original concept?

The US AF model’s cannon still cannot shoot straight for instance.

You missed the point - this is more of China pushing the envelope like the taking of HK. When will they decide to rape the Gulf of Alaska and Bristol Bay, come after the US East Coast fisheries?

If I remember correctly, Windows 95 shipped with 40,000 bugs unresolved. Just because a bug exists doesn’t mean it’s an issue.

Finding and contracts.
Did the jet get built in accordance with contract specs? Is it doing what it is supposed to do? Yes, it is. A design flaw, if you call it that, is a matter of finding mods and upgrades.

RUMOR is Israel has done small changes not affecting performance of the jet. The LOA prohibits changes to the software and design, if they make changes they invalidate any warranty claim.

Full production does not mean the problems are fixed, just fixed enough to satisfy the contract and budgets at $400 billion.

The USAF F-35A will still go into production without a cannon fix and be unable to defend itself once its missiles are expended.

No cell service? Who told you that? There are places where cell phones are prohibited and other places where electronic voids exist because of security.

A) Your life did not depend on windows bugs being resolved.

B) It is an issue, if your cannon cannot hit the broad side of a barn. What do you do when your missiles are expended and cannot defend yourself? Die? 1 issue of hundreds.

The Project On Government Oversight (POGO) was founded by noted Leftist and Huff Post contributor Dina Rasor.

I can't think of single military project that the Left said was perfect or wasn't full of flaws.

The idea that they're “never going to fix some problem”—if that problem is a show stopper is absurd.

Not saying there aren't problems, but every and any one of them will be addressed.

I remember in the late 70s ABC News doing an “exclusive” on why the F-16 was a POS. It flew by computer control. In fact, we in the Air Force even said that without those controls “The F-16 flew like a thrown brick.”

But that didn't mean it was a POS. It turned out to be one of America's greatest aircraft.

Remember 1977, When the F-16 Was America's Problem Child?

I didn't miss the point at all. We will be going to war with the chinee. I merely pointed out that the reasons for doing so are among the oldest. I'm in no way saying that we aren't justified in protecting ours and ally's turf (or surf).

Not exactly. PMRs are held all the time to review programs.

Military working in the Pentagon are loyal to the guys in the field. Either they just came from there, or going back, or have friends in harms way. To accuse them of not working towards the best solution is not how things are happening. AND most all engineering activity is spread throughout various locations where the design and testing is conducted.

Whoever thinks the Pentagon is engineering central has never worked there or understands the acquisition world.

The Pentagon is where budget wars are fought and technology is not built in a Pentagon lab somewhere within the building. The biggest enemy to proper funding are Democrats that want to fund silly social programs and Democrats short design, development and manufacture of sold weapons programs.

Cost per unit is important and a way the Democrats game the system. Cost-out a fleet of 1,000 new jets and it is palatable. But Democrats cut the number to be bought and cost per unit goes up and Democrats then argue the program costs too much and try - and many times succeed- in killing the program because of increased costs, increases they are responsible for.

Yes you did. Everyone knows what you “pointed out”. And you were preforming the equivalent of shooting the messenger without bothering to read the message - all too common on FR; one of the reasons I and many others seldom post to this forum

You assume we are going to war with the Chinese (chinee) - assumptions are dangerous and very often completely wrong like your spelling.
