A long time ago in a pre-COVID universe far, far away, blockbusters opened around the globe simultaneously or nearly so. In 1975, Jaws set the blueprint. Concentrate marketing. Open wide. Pack them in.
Since then, Hollywood has turned opening weekends into an all-out assault. Staggered rollouts still happen, of course, but the biggest films are dropped like carpet bombs. Anything less risks losing the attention of moviegoers. Global debuts north of $300 million became commonplace. Last year, Avengers: Endgame made well north of $1 billion in a couple days.

HollyWeird and Theaters going down?
What’s not to like?
Not sure why Hollywood hasn’t produced and released purely anti-Trump movies thrown together at the last minute. You know it’s what they want to do.
Well, if they had a blockbuster to release.....
Dear Hollywood - ESAD. That is not a request.
Nothing but sedition, perversion and crap comes out of Hellywood.
No kidding! I, for one, can’t stand Hollywood. They give us nothing but violence and cruelty. It is a quicksand of destruction and depression.
I literally hate it. Never, ever going to pay a boatload of money to see anything they provide. The popcorn and sodas alone cost a bundle.
Hah, they haven’t had a ‘blockbuster’ in what? 30 yrs?
to paraphrase a chain i haven’t eaten at in decades,
“I’m lovin’ it.”
Who’s gonna go to a movie theater having to wear a mask and social distancing? You can watch pretty much anything you want at home without the hassles and expenses.
I want to see the movie where an AC-130 gunship wipes out an entire Antifa mob.
We had a delightful evening at an eat-in movie theater this past weekend showing Forrest Gump.
The evening movie was $5 itself, with salads and other food freshly made and brought to your chairs.
I would encourage everyone to find a local theater and get out for a proven movie you can enjoy.
You take it off once in your chair.
What difference would it make since the Governors and Mayors refuse to allow such venues to operate?
The Producers should all just have their products go “Direct To Video” and sell them online; They might make a few bucks, especially since so many are trapped at home and are in desperate need of diversions.
Why don’t these idiots re-release the original Star Wars (first three movies) again, even thought they appear on TV? they were great to view on a large scene.
The same for the Star Trek movies. “Independence Day”. “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” original B&W - will remind people of what the Democrats are doing today - taking millenials and making them into Podpeople, mindless automaton voters.
“American Grafitti”. So many stars made their “bones” in this movie.
Don’t know if anything really good other than the “Juraissic Park” and James Bond movies were produced after these.
“Serendity” great space sci-fi movie.
“Saving Private Ryan”.
OK. For the “guys”, “Showgirls”. /sarc +
They don’t call things “Golden Oldies for nothing”.
#11. Re an AC130 and an Antifa mob. The movie will be called “In Your Dreams”.
Add to my bring-back list, “Field of Dreams”. Not PC crap in it. Just fun and good acting.
Forget the propaganda that la-la land produces.
READ BOOKS !
Sometimes you need a break from your home and all the reading you do there.
Isn’t it time for the 101st “reboot” of Spiderman?
