[Another example of the arrogance & incompetence of Hollyweird. We (as in Hollyweird) can do history better then history !]

In fairness, it’s not clear that it’s particularly easy to write a script that appeals to a modern audience while sticking to what is known of what actually occurred. I’ve slogged through a good number of Chinese and Korean series on Amazon and Youtube with elaborate palace intrigues where courtiers and princes duke it out with each other and the king himself for power. I thought they were very entertaining, even though having to read subtitles all the way through meant I couldn’t, for instance, cook while listening to it in the background. I am impressed, however, at how ingenious and well-thought out so many of the back and forth maneuvers were. Great scripts, but perhaps also an audience that appreciated the material.

I’ve found that foreign film do better with their own history then we do.
