Disney is no longer releasing Mulan on Aug. 21 and is unsetting the movie for the time being. Oy, just when AMC was looking to turn the lights back on with a big movie in pockets of the country.
[snip]
Disney is also not revealing their playbook, i.e. whether Mulan will debut abroad first before domestic, even though logic would dictate that. Earlier this week, exhibitors and distributors were betting Mulan would stay put; the notion being that the Niki Caro-directed feature adaptation of the 1998 toon would be on Disney+ by at least Christmas.
Over the last few months, its become clear that nothing can be set in stone when it comes to how we release films during this global health crisis, and today that means pausing our release plans for Mulan as we assess how we can most effectively bring this film to audiences around the world, a Disney spokesperson said.
In addition to the global pandemic, theater closures and production shutdowns, the Burbank, CA made a slew of other calendar changes as well, more specifically, all Avatar and Star Wars movies have been pushed by a year, i.e. Avatar 2 (Dec. 17, 2021 is now Dec. 16, 2022), Avatar 3 (previously Dec. 22, 2023 is now Dec. 20, 2024), Avatar 4 (formerly Dec. 19, 2025 goes to Dec. 18, 2026), Avatar 5 (previously Dec. 27, 2027 goes to Dec. 22, 2028).
The untitled Star Wars trilogy movies as follows with the first film, reportedly under Taika Waititis guidance, going from Dec. 16, 2022 to Dec. 22, 2023; the second movie moving from Dec. 20, 2024 to Dec. 19, 2025, and the third movie heading from Dec. 18, 2026 to Dec. 17, 2027.

Woke sportscasters at a money-losing TV network hardest hit.
Cancel all Star Wars until its all firmly under Favreaus control.
Didnt I hear they were making Milan a butch lesbian in keeping with the PC culture at Disney? I think they were trying to do that with Frozen Elsa, but no one would buy a hot platinum blonde as LGBTQRSTUVWXYZ
Yes it is interesting to see some of the unintended consequences of the shutdowns.
In this case liberal Hollywood is being hurt badly by the liberals who have pushed the shutdown hysteria.
Avatar 2, 3, 4, 5?
Avatar 1 was bad enough? I vote to push them out at least a decade.
Asians believe Mulan is too feminine-looking. She rose through the ranks with people believing she is a guy. She must have been masculine-looking.
Did you hear? The Mandalorian threw his back out carrying the franchise.
AMC - owned by the Chinese.
It is the largest theater chain in the world - they are the tail that wags the dog. If they don’t like a movie, it does not get shown in their theaters.
The only good thing about Avatar was the 3D effects. Great movie for testing a 3D DVD player and a 3D HDTV. Did great with mine. The 3D “Point Blank” is also fantastic extreme sports porn.
Disney is losing millions a day.
Movies are not their main business anymore. Theme parks and cruise ships are their main business.
Even with no paying customers it cost money to maintain the ships and the various parks around the world. As anyone knows that has ever dealt with a house that set empty for any length of time problems develop. So the properties need to be maintained.
With luck may be they will go bankrupt.
Straight to video.
Rumor is that Disney is bringing George Lucas back by begging him to save his franchise from what they did to it.
covid didnt kill star wars
disney killed the last three
its like how do you undo a lethal vaccine?
you can’t
once it’s been injected into you, they can’t get it back out
if this goes on long enough, people may not ever come back to the theaters, at least anywhere near the numbers as before, as they’ve figured out new and better ways to entertain themselves ... same may be true of sports, especially if the primary purpose of sports is to jam SJW/BLM bullshit down the throats of the patrons instead of providing politics-free entertainment ...
Is Mulan the movie where the heroine uses biological warfare to defeat the enemies of China?
Talked to some movie people today. One assessment is that no big theater chains will fail. (I had thought Cinemark would fail, AMC took out a huge loan). He thinks all four (Harkins, Regis) will survive.
All productions are being pushed back, and he (a “finance guy” in the business was of the opinion that studios were drastically reducing budgets: “You won’t see a lot of $100m pictures made now. It will be $40m tops”). Still thinks the distribution system is a bottleneck for getting any conservative-family-leaning product out.
Another guy, however, says that his conservative family friendly film is being shopped in some major streamers, and that they’ll know in a week or two where things stand.
The sense is that the China Virus will a) reduce all film connections to/with China; b) instigate a whole new round of Political Correctness on steroids; c) but that that will be offset by the fact that there is just NO content cuz no one has made anything for months.
AMC is bankrupt and may not last out the Wuhan Fever!
At least Kathleen Kennedy is out.
She ruined Stars Wars.
