I’m not so sure it’s the weld. The break seems to be on the edge of the weld. Perhaps too high an amperage/heat was used, which weakening the metal along the weld shoulder. On the other hand, it may just be that the metal is just too light a gauge. A good machinist would be able to render a verdict.
