Landon Fuller, an outgoing 11-year-old from Hobbs, loved to make people laugh. He enjoyed sports, riding his bike around the neighborhood with his friends and attending church with his parents and two older sisters.
The shuttering of schools and the stay-at-home orders implemented to minimize the risk of spreading COVID-19 were hard on him, his mother said, and he often asked to go out and play or accompany his parents to the grocery store.
On April 23, almost six weeks after his last day in a classroom, Landon took the gun his father carried to protect himself from rattlesnakes while working in the oil fields. He rode his bike to a field a little way from his familys home, and he killed himself.
Landons death was one of more than 2,300 unexpected deaths being analyzed by the Office of the Medical Investigator since the first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in New Mexico in early March. That is nearly a 20% spike in unexpected deaths, which usually includes car crashes, suicides, homicides and some natural deaths.
Dr. Heather Jarrell, the interim director of OMI, attributed the increase to indirect causes of COVID.
And health officials suspect those numbers include a rise in suicides. National experts have warned there could be more suicides during the pandemic due to increased financial stress, isolation and other factors.
Theres clear visual evidence of a rising death toll. The rise in deaths goes beyond those who have died from COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. Officials have so far reported 513 deaths from the illness.
Suicide has emerged as a likely factor, she said. OMI investigators have linked some recent suicides with depression worsened by social isolation or job losses.

11 year old killing himself is more than due to a lock down.
There’s something bigger there, either experienced by the kid or due to neurological factors.
Dramatic uptick in ER psych and substance abuse presentations. People have learned to live in fear. Death is preferable to cowering in fear
That was my thought, too.
Most kids are very adaptable and inventive about amusing themselves.
Leftists could not care less if people die. They only want to control.

Lots of 11 year olds lived very isolated during many periods in human history. Suburban and urban America is not the historical norm although I think its very nice.
So I have the feeling there is more to this story.
That said I believe this insane leadership and restriction with its accompanying hopelessness and the destruction of dreams, education, financial well being and relationships will of course result in more suicides and self destructive behavior.

At about the 35-minute mark he mentions they expect 75,000 suicides as a result...
Long but interesting video.
“Dr Heather Jarrell, interim director of OMI, attributed the increase to “indirect causes of COVID.”
So they were “COVID” deaths.
EXTEND THE LOCKDOWNS INDEFINITELY
The new bolshevik propaganda strategy is being built. “If it bleeds it leads” with maximum empathy to naturally evolve to “Trumps fault” over the coming months.
My dad lived in a senior apartments for about 7 years and he counted a couple splatters a year jumping from a fourth floor patio
Child abuse cases showing up in ER’s have increased and we can imagine how much child abuse we don’t hear about due to this planneddemic is out there.
My psychiatry friends have been working overtime, but child abuse (and abuse of any who cannot defend themselves) brings wood chipper to mind.
“.... but child abuse (and abuse of any who cannot defend themselves) brings wood chipper to mind”.
That’s right. Feet first.
Lot of normal people will have their 2A rights confiscated or never exercised.
Those on the wrong side will have theirs restored.
I was thinking the same thing. Endless summer for kids in 1971 would never be the cause of a moments lost sleep. But I had friends, brothers, and played in the neighborhood. We made our own play dates.
And only one of us got killed.
I had COVID and had to quarantine for 2 weeks. I live by myself. I was really unhappy at the end. I am not an unhappy person but it’s not normal for people to be locked in their homes. I would rather get sick. And I’m glad I did and now I have my get out of jail card and I’m going to enjoy it.
I know many kids who at times have been extrememly stressed due to sudden stop of so many things they were used to doing and not being able to see people they routinely saw. Maybe this kid was infatuated with someone and suddenly could not see them? maybe he had no phone or denied access to that or internet?
I could see a kid that age killing themselves largely due to sudden stop of so much they were daily used to, which happened due to covid and how parents dealt with it with their child or what restrictions communities placed on people.
this wasn’t typical school break for kids, this was sudden restructure of their lives.
Some are adaptable and some not so much. I was 14 or 15 and a kid in my grade took his own life. kids today seem to value life and death even less - so much more mind numbing has happened - tv video games etc or so much self focus.
Bkmk
IOW, he picked up his parent’s dozen stressers.
Did he live in an apartment or a house? Many parents never have allowed their kids to play in their own backyards. Was he not allowed to and did his parents not play with him? Couldn’t the family go camping or dad take him out for target practice? Could he not get on the internet or his phone with his friends? Lots more questions about what home life was and why he felt trapped. There’s more to this story.
Why is NM’s suicide rate so high? Those 2018 numbers have nothing to do with the virus.
