Pat Simmons used to live about 2 miles away,
not far from Dickie Smother’s vineyard.
Tiran Porter is one of the greatest rock bassists ever.
They sound amazing. I’ve been listening to Yacht Rock all day on XM Satellite so I’ve had my fair share of Doobie Brothers and Michael McDonald this fine Sunday.
Yacht Rock radio on Sirius/XM always sounds great on a hot summer night. Doesn’t matter if I heard every one of the songs a thousand times already.
I have been listening to a 5 disc set by Tori Amos. There is a new compilation of 500 greatest songs ever, and I remarked to my brother that if her Winter did not make the top *100*, the whole list should be scrapped.
Stampede is their best album, IMHO. Neal’s Fandango and I Cheat the Hangman, are two of their best songs.
Flanger effect? Is that like an echo that should be heard when the long haired guy sings “like an endless flowing river?”?
Ive always been fond of Minute by Minute. But all their music is excellent.
Dang...these boys have not lost a beat! They’re as good at home as they ever were on stage.
Seriously, I think they could charge to do a live, at home concert. I’d pay to watch.
A friend is a highly acclaimed mastering engineer who re-mastered Minute by Minute and I was able to partner with him on that project.
When I visited him at his LA studio, he made an acetate of that album and was kind enough to include my website in the album credits.
The acetate sounds as close to the reel-to-reel master tape...but, alas, has a limited playback lifetime - about 30 plays.
Personally, I like their last radio release, “The Doctor”.
Mine too.
Pity there isnt a laser stylus that could read the grooves. Then you could play it indefinitely.
At one time, there was a laser-based turntable that played vinyl...but never caught on due to sound quality lower than high quality Turntable/Tonearm/MC cartridge systems.
That said...
Hearing the reel-to-reel master tape of the Doobies’ “Minute” album was amazingly lifelike. I’ve also heard Sinatra’s master tape - THAT was the best reproduced sound I’ve ever heard....including $500k systems at CES where I exhibited brands I imported for US distribution.
Sinatra was very meticulous about the microphone used for his voice - preferring a German mic.
When The Doors recorded their first album at Sunset Sound, Jim Morrison recognized immediately his voice mic was the same that Sinatra preferred.
