Statement by the President on Venezuelan Independence Day
whitehouse.gov ^ | July 5, 2020 | President Donald J Trump

Today, on the 209th anniversary of the Venezuelan Declaration of Independence, the United States reaffirms our solidarity with the people of Venezuela.

The Venezuelan people are suffering under an illegitimate and tyrannical regime intent on destroying democratic institutions, abusing human rights, engaging in rampant corruption, and exploiting the worst economic and humanitarian crisis in recent history.

Yet the United States has great hope for the people of Venezuela. Through their perseverance and courage, Venezuela will attain true independence.

My Administration will always stand against socialism.

Venezuelans on Twitter are warning the United States that we are treading the same path their country took. One woman said that in Venezuela, they watched their statues being pulled down as we see them coming down in the US. She warns that they didn't believe Venezuela could ever fall to a coup and they have. She and other Venezuelans urged Americans to wake up, and realize it can happen here, just at it happened to them.

We had 8 years of Bill clinton and 8 of Obama, not to mention 12 years of Bushes and I didn’t think we deserved to go to hell.

Maybe the most glaring flaw of socialism is the enrichment of the leader, and gotten not through innovation, entrepreneurialism, business acumen, or even brilliance, but at the expense of everyone else. Socialism doesn’t advocate the building of an economy literally from the ground up, through construction of new entities, but theft of those already existing, build by people of actual talent.

I spent time in Venezuala back in the 60s and 70s. Except for the upper class, military, and oil workers, the US was hated and it only got worse from there.

Mr President,

You should demonstrate how much you care and Very Publicly ask Bernie and friends to go down there as ambassadors and show them how to fix socialism.
