Statement from the Press Secretary Regarding Today’s Supreme Court Ruling on Religious Schools
whitehouse.gov ^ | June 30, 2020 | White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany

Posted on 07/01/2020 9:13:41 AM PDT by ransomnote

We celebrate today’s Supreme Court decision on religious schools, which removes one of the biggest obstacles to better educational opportunities for all children.  States may no longer hide behind rules motivated by insidious bias against Catholics, known as Blaine Amendments, to exclude religious schools from public benefits.  Laws that condition public benefits, like need-based academic scholarships, on religious status demonstrate state-sanctioned hostility to religion, pressure people and institutions to censor their religious views, and stigmatize disfavored religions.  The Trump Administration believes that school choice is a civil rights issue, and that no parent should be forced to send their child to a failing school.  President Donald J. Trump will fight for school choice, and he will always defend our first freedom: the free exercise of religion.

These people pay school taxes...let's call it tuition. The idea that you can only get use of that money if you send your children to Public Schools is ridiculous.

Using the Public School System method, you are subsidizing Public Schools. It's called....suckers!!!

Tricky situation. Often times these government opportunities come with strings. When the government changes hands these strings can be used against the schools.

Blaine House in Augusta Maine, where the governor resides, was one of the most racist and nasty haters of his time.

He despised, among others, Catholics.

And that hatred carried down through the years.

In the early years of the 1900s all the fine churches of Portland Maine were on or just right off Congress Street, the fashionable address at the time.

Some of the churches, like the Unitarians, and others placed small chapels on the servant’s street right behind Congress Street called Cumberland Avenue. These were for the servants of the ruling classes who worshipped on Congress Street.

The Catholics has an entire block spanning Congress over to Cumberland Ave and proposed a school and Cathedraal complex.

The city and its haters refused to permit the Cathederal to be on Congress Street with the rest of the churches of the “gentry’ class and instead force the Cathedral to be located on with its doors on Cumberland Ave to show that the Catholics are all “servant class. The school was located on Congress instead.

Haters come in all flavors and types. From all parts of the country.

this is great! Towns that do not have schools can now give the money to parents to fund their own real school choice.
