NYPD commander leaves Bronx precinct for last time after retiring in protest
New York Post ^ | June 26, 2020 | 4:00pm | Matthew McDermott and Ben Feuerherd

The NYPD precinct boss who retired in protest this week blasted politicians for wanting to “vilify” cops during a raucous final walk-out celebration at his Bronx stationhouse Friday.

Deputy Inspector Richard Brea rode off in a restored classic police car at about 3 p.m. after the celebration outside the 46th Precinct, which featured an NYPD helicopter fly by and NYPD bagpipers.

In a speech at the ceremony, Brea slammed politicians for not backing police officers amid nationwide protests against police brutality.

“Their blood is in the concrete of every street corner, but these politicians don’t want to remember that. They want to blame and vilify everyone here. I won’t have that. No sir.” […]

Brea had griped that with his anti-crime officers reassigned, he’d been put in the situation of explaining to department brass why arrests in his precinct were down at a CompStat meeting this week.

“I’ll be more than happy to come to CompStat and get a beatdown, but I’m not getting guidance,” Brea allegedly told Sliwa. …

“Politicians”?

Really now...

He wants to blame someone for lack of courage, but doesn’t have the guts to blame the left.

“de Blasio said...Adjustments are being made as we speak. The choice on the anti-crime unit was the right one.”

What a Jackass. His wife has her stink all over this.

As far as I’m concerned this precinct commander is welcome in my state anytime. We need as many quality LEOs as we can get.

After almost 30 years of service, he’s earned his pension, and I hope he has a long, happy, and healthy retirement. He made the right choice by not compromising his values, to stay to work for a department that has destroyed the morale of many a good police officer. Had he stayed, he would have only been used by his higher-ups as a scape goat when the $hit hit the fan. I worked for NY State in uniform, under Mario Cuomo. Democrats are good at telling you to do all this extra stuff, with less people. They create a dangerous situation, then tell you, you have to fix it with the least amount of help. De Blasio, and the suck ass administrators at the top of the department are going to get a whole lot of cops killed. The question is, will they be held accountable for it? I doubt it.

He doesn't have to say that, because everyone knows New York City, and New York State is run by liberal Democrats. It's a given.

Deep State media-DNC-politicians control the subhuman leftist scum/filth. He just assumes everyone else knows that fact. He should have been more explicit.

What message does this fool thinks he's sending the criminals in New York City? Hey criminals...t's open season on committing crimes, because we don't have any crime fighters anymore.

He’s joining in on helping paint blm crap on the streets. He and that racist wife of his are just two more criminals in my mind.

The productive citizens nyc should be furious and do everything they can to get rid of this Jackass...AND that POS governor. If they are not well they get what they deserve.

*Yawn*

Police in Blue cities if they had any integrity should be retiring in mass.

They are not and worse their unions will continue endorse Democrats and they will happily vote for them.

The fix is in, for the lovely benefits big government provides them, sacrificing a few of their fellow officers every now and again to the mob is a price they are willing to pay.

https://nypost.com/2020/06/27/272-nypd-cops-file-for-retirement-since-floyd-protests/

“The flurry of Finest farewells began after the police-involved killing of George Floyd on May 25, with 272 uniformed cops putting in retirement papers from then through June 24, the NYPD says.
That’s a 49 percent spike from the 183 officers who filed during the same period last year, according to the department.”

Get yourself a RV sir.

You and your wife take off and travel the country. Rural America is still the real America you grew up in and learned to respect and honor.

Got room for you right here where I live if you need to snowbird it, or whatever you and yours desire.

He should have retired the minute he was eligible.

"He should have retired the minute he was eligible"

I know with New York State's retirement system, the amount of your pension is based consecutively, on your 3 highest years in service. I don't know how many years he was in his current position to know if it would have been in his favor to retire when he reached the age. There could have been other factors, like kids still in college, or heading to college, which usually forces a parent to stay in a job like that longer than they actually want to. I haven't been able to find out what his age is, but in New York State, as a Sergeant in the prison system, and in the retirement tier I was in, I had to be 55 to retire, and get my full pension benefits.

What has been missing this whole time is the voice of the good people of New York. Is everyone that scared? Are we really that Country now?

Yes, and I wonder if the fascists running NYC will spend time and money to identify and reprise against all of those who gave him a good sendoff.

I just hate to see people stay on the job...especially such a demanding job...any longer then they have to. I’ve seen too many cases where people have way over stayed their career and are found face down on their desk never to enjoy their retirement.

I hear you on that one. I worked with people that the only thing in their life was the job. I worked in Corrections. When I took the job of Corrections Officer in 1980, the life expectancy was 58. I was 33 when I took the job. I made a vow to myself that day, that I would not do the State a favor and die while working for them. I managed to retire as a Sergeant in 2003 at the age of 56, but many of my fellow officers, most younger than me, never got to retire. I'm one of the lucky ones who lived to retire, and I thank God for every day he gives me.
