...facing several charges, including child abuse and first-degree murder...the couple made him drink the water because his urine was dark. The county coroner's office determined the boy died of forced water intoxication after he was told to drink four 24-ounce (.7-litre) bottles of water over four hours...Ryan Sabin, Zachary's father and a sergeant based at Fort Carson, called 911 after he found the boy in his bed with foam coming from his mouth and blood on his bed.

Three eight-ounce glasses of water per hour. Wrong symptoms for hyponatremia (blood, etc.)? Kidney or urological problem, perhaps? Women's studies programs (misogamy) distribute propaganda to other departments in universities.

Sometimes, there’s a difference between a coroner and a medical examiner. A medical examiner will more likely be a doctor.

This does not seem to me like a lot of water over 4 hours. His system should have been able to handle it. Something else went wrong here.

Maybe a trip to the emergency room in the case of dark urine.

That’s what I thought, too.

The foaming at the mouth may have been due to a seizure caused by hyponatremia.

The child was 11 years old. The excerpt didn’t include that fact and I wanted to see if they made a toddler or an almost adult drink 3 quarts of water over 4 hours. The age was in the middle of that range.

Maybe, maybe not. That was 96 ounces of water in 4 hours in an 11 year old when the recommended daily for an adult is 32 ounces.

For perspective, 96 ounces of water is 6 1/4 lbs of water...in an 11 year old over 4 hours.

My sons could chug 0.7 liters no problem at that age...they would be performing at their peak after drinking it...and definitely they would not die.

Whoops...that kid had 4 of them. They could only handle that if they were playing football in August.

Depends on MOS and age at enlistment. If you assume a slow moving MOS and a late enlistment age, 41 would not be too far off. It is possible to enlist at 35 ... so 6 + years in service.

A person Sergeant can any rank. I was a MSgt I was address as a Sergeant. He could be an E8. I would not expect the media to know when to use a formal address.

Yet you can't spell sergeant?

"The child was 11 years old. The excerpt didn’t include that fact..."

Thanks! I missed that while stuffing the excerpt. When I was 11, by the way, I was mowing lawns with a push mower in semitropical heat or playing football with the other neighborhood kids. Soon after that, we were playing football in junior high and taking salt tablets (another doctors' fad, back then).

Rank was hard to get during the Clinton years and can be slow in some MOSs, too.

Hyponatremia can cause seizure. Patients who seize can bite their tongue etc.

3 liters of water in a little kid in 4 hours is a pretty hefty water intake.

Fatal?
Easy enough to determine at autopsy.

Serum sodium level.
Serum osmolality.

https://www.fortcarsonmountaineer.com/2018/09/carson-soldier-advances-to-general/ has a picture by him and it said he was a Sergeant 1st Class (E-7) in 2018.

Also, a seasoned vet like you knows that lowercase "sergeant" can be used for any sergeant rank. SFC Ryan Sabin

Your attempt at bragging has backfired.

I don't remember how much I would drink at that age during and after a long bike ride during the summer. But then most of that would be from a garden hose rather than premeasured bottles.
