The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).
Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated, youll be solving them all within a few days. If youre stumped, take a break and return to it.
PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and how you made out.
You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for todays Cryptogram ASK THE GROUP FOR HELP!
I suggest printing these out and work them on paper. If you need a little help you can copy and paste it to Hals Helper below.
You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper, but I recommend that you do NOT look at the letter counter.
One last request. Feel free to post a fun or clever clue, the more tangential to the quotation the better, but please dont put the actual words of the quote in the clue.
Solution to our last puzzle. Simply scroll your cursor over the text while left clicking your mouse, and the words should appear.
FRIENDS WILL NOT ONLY LIVE IN HARMONY MERELY, AS SOME SAY, BUT IN MELODY. HENRY DAVID THOREAU
About 2 min. Common letter, first word, third word leads to 4th word and its off to the races.
Common letter, sixth and third word, and then the rest.
Whoa. I noticed an unusual combination of letters in the last two words — the name part.
Texted the clan genius, got the answer in seconds. Somebody I never even heard of!
But yes, the second word would have made the whole thing a lot easier.
In 'Married With Children' Al was told that for every NEW thing one learned that in some people it just pushed out something old.
Kelly had a shot at a zillion dollars in a sports quiz and Al & Bud started feeding her new data and she was mowing the questions down and it made one wonder what would the catastrophe be that would keep Al a shoe clerk his whole life.
They are asking Kelly the gazillion dollar question:
"Who scored 4 TDs in one game for Polk High giving them the City Championship?"
Apparently they fed Kelly one bit of data too much as she drew a blank.
(FOR THOSE THAT 'DON'T KNOW')
Everyday of her life Al told the 4 TD story and it should have been imbedded deep in her brain.
Guess one had to be there.
Nikos1121.... must have 'dropped' me off 2 of the last 3 days...just stumbled upon it today.
Mistake or by design????
the first word essentially gives you the third word
I try to make sure to get you, but most of the time, I’m posting the list from my cell phone. You are at the very bottom, and I guess you got cut off again.
I’m sorry, My Friend, I’ll be more careful in the future.
Glad to know that there are people out there anxiously waiting for these every morning.
Today’s CG from the Arkansas Gazette. Fairly easy one, yesterday’s was also.
I don’t know if you resent the ENTIRE list or not but it arrived just after this one...
Tues not at all..
Thanks..
Keeps my mind sharp coming up with ‘quizzical’ nonsense clews(sic) that may or may not be picked up.
I personally do not read ANYTHING associated with puzzle till it is complete...My mind ‘tends’ to relax if I see a line say ‘this one easy’ etc etc
IT ISN’T EASY BEING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I resemble that remark :)
1.5 min
Common letter + grammar = first word.
Then third word.
Then sixth word then 2nd word.
Then off to the races.
Neither does wisdom.
3 minutes; guessed the author
quizzical nonsense clews
I resemble that remark :)
= = = = = = = = = = =
Don’t know where I ‘found’ that remark...
Guarantee, if I had thought of it first would definitely have said it....
(that is a good line to be used when someone ‘is accused’ of coming up with a good line and a wag goes back 400 hundred years and finds basically the same line - in OLD ENGLISH or ROMAN - and then claims TJ didn’t actually say that etc....)
I’ll admit I never heard of the author.
My first guess was King Tut but that didn’t quite fit.
I went to a magic show some years ago. The magician called me up and told me he was going to fool me - also told me how he was going to fool me, and then he fooled me.
