'I kneel for two people - the Queen and my wife': Dominic Raab faces backlash as he says BLM 'taking the knee' protest is from 'Game of Thrones' and a symbol of 'subjugation' [UK Foreign Secretary] [ed]

Dominic Raab is facing a backlash after criticising the BLM 'taking the knee' protest - saying it is like something out of Game of Thrones. The Foreign Secretary said the gesture, which has been at demonstrations around the world since the death of George Floyd, 'feels to me like a symbol of subjugation and subordination rather than one of liberation and emancipation'. He accepted other people 'feel differently' and insisted he understood the 'frustration' felt by oppressed communities, but added: 'I take the knee for two people, the Queen and the Mrs when I asked her to marry me.'

13% of our population demands that everyone kneel to them.

That’s not how this works.

Viewpoint uniformity required! The tiniest deviation from wokeness is punishable by termination! Silence is defiance! You must confess!

I think taking the knee is from football. You take a knee to end a down without getting tackled, usually in garbage time when the game is decided and you’re running out the clock. Kaepernick was a football player. It’s like saying “no contest on this play.”

It works in the game because when any part of your body except your hand touches the ground, and you are touched by a player of the other team, the play is over.

I find it demeaning to do with respect to the flag and the national anthem. It’s like saying, “I’m not playing, this episode is over.”

“I think taking the knee is from football.”

I don’t think you’re correct.
I think it’s far, far older than that.

I'm still upset at seeing Pelosi and her boot lickers kneeling with their anti-white scarves.

Unforgivable just her ripping up the President's State of the Union Speech....and of course her impeachment "farce".

These people are nuts.

Au contraire.
I love that one.
Trump is going to play that one like a football at his rallies. Especially the part where Pelosi got stuck on her knees. Pure comedy.

Bending the knee is certainly far older, to show submission to royalty.

But in the context of Kaepernick, and sports, I think the more recent football use was what he and the players were thinking of.

Someone should ask them their view on the symbolism, history, and what they are thinking. Most would say, “Whu... I don’t know. Black Lives Matter. Team spirit.”

Football?

Kneeling before a superior power in supplication, surrender, show of fealty is more ancient than even Biblical times. Mentioned repeatedly in both Old and New Testaments.

Strange that with your FR nick you don’t seem to know this....or have you taken that alias from the comic strip rather than the Bible?

Read my second post on this.

Sure, I’m aware of the long history of “bending the knee.”

But in the sports/NFL world, its heavily mixed with the play by play. IMHO, of course.

Americans opted against kneeling way back when they told King George III what he could do with his colonial aspirations in North America!

For true Americans-nothing has changed

I wonder what that kneeling to his wife is all about?
He has to get on his knees before he gets any?
