In Minneapolis, every store is a self-checkout store.

Seems to me that BLM Hood Rats have made plenty of trial runs all over the country for the past couple of weeks.

It seems like every time I use the self-checkout lane, I end up having a cashier help me anyway so I don't even bother with them anymore.

'Course, if there are no cashiers at all, I'd be totally scrood. They gotta have somebody there to help when those things get hung up.

There's a Walmart grocery-only store near me. There are only one or two traditional check out lines and a bunch of self-checkout stations. There are still at least one or two employees watching the self-checkout.

It's basically a fustercluck. Most people can't figure out the self-checkout so that is hosed up along with the one or two traditional checkouts where there are very long lines.

I refuse to use automatic machines. I know how to use them, but I purposely go to a cashier. People need jobs. Even low wage jobs.

I happen to like the self checkout. Here in CA, you only need to go to the checker if you are buying alcohol or tobacco.

I hope Wal*Mart has the common sense and common decency to post a large sign, easily seen from the parking lot, that this store is self-checkout only.

I’d be really bummed if I spent time finding a parking place, walked to the store and got a shopping cart only to discover the store had no cash register checkout lanes.

Can you check out alcohol (beer/wine/spirits) in the self checkout?

Was talking to the wife just an hour ago.

Did this China virus shut down self checkout or encourage it?

We haven’t been in that type of store in 4 months.

This thread is the answer I guess.

I like the self checkouts for the most part.

Humans are programmed to attempt to sign you up for the store’s “rewards” program, which I want no part of. Sometimes they can be really obnoxious about it.

And the machines never get into a lengthy conversation with the person in line in front of you.

I’m totally fine with that. The self checkout stands always have an opening, so no waiting. The cashier stands always have a line, as they only have one or two open at any given time.

Self checkout is so easy even a monkey can do it. It’s the bagging part I hate.

Years ago Walmart lost quite a bit of money from customers sneaking items past self-checkout. The Asset Protection team can track employee theft and customer theft. The store I worked in lost a huge amount to employee theft every year.

Security cameras are positioned at every check out, both self and regular check out.

I guess now the technology has improved so much that they are no longer losing much on those self registers and are moving more in that direction.

Have property near there and that store is the nearest big WalMart. We won’t be going there anymore.

Notice they didn’t do this in Bentonville or Rodgers where all their upper management live.
