That’s weird, because the main symptom and harmful part of COVID is respiratory problems, and tobacco has deleterious effects on the pulmonary system.

Maybe it’s the Nicotine itself that provides any benefits.
Nicotine doesn’t need to be smoked in order to be absorbed into the system. I was on one of many ‘health kicks’ many years ago. I tried nicotine pills because I read that it may improve the memory.

I stopped taking those pills after a few days for this reason; the nicotine pills made my dreams
EXTREMELY VIVID. I didn’t like it. That side effect became somewhat disturbing. Those dreams remained in the front of my mind for many days. When I stopped the Nic pills, the vivid dreams stopped too.

Maybe smoker conditions mask virus symptoms.

harmful part of COVID

The part that kills you is the thrombotic clotting that manifests mostly as a respiratory problem. The lung's alveoli get all filled up with clotted blood cells. It's also why people have heart attacks and kidney failure with Covid-19.

Nicotine seems to bind to Ace2 essentially preventing a "landing zone" for the virus. If the inoculum is low enough, your body will clear it before it becomes overwhelming.

The French study identified the reason. It said that the receptors the virus uses to invade the body are the exact receptors nicotine uses. Their study concluded that with nicotine already occupying those receptors that the virus has a very difficult time attaching itself to those receptors.
