Juneteenth is a special day in Texas. The info about the Emancipation Proclamation did not reach Texas until June 19th 2 1/2 years after it had been proclaimed. That’s why it is remembered here as a special day.

It’s not like they didn’t have newspapers in 1865. It was they date they were formerly liberated. Remember, Emancipation Proc had no legal force in the Confederacy.
