New York City educators are mounting a letter-writing campaign to urge Mayor Bill de Blasio and city and state lawmakers to dramatically slash funding to the police department and instead divert millions of dollars to public schools.
The campaign, launched by Brooklyn MS 839 principal Michael Perlberg and first reported by Chalkbeat, has garnered more than 600 signatures from school supervisors, teachers and parent activists.

The ONLY thing that kept the schools from sinking under the waves of total chaos at all were the security agents in the school. A lot of them did a very mediocre job, spending the day talking to one another instead of patrolling the halls, but at least they were a presence. The better ones kept the school functional, period. The NYPD officers were a step up from the school agents and dealt with the more violent students who assaulted other students, teachers, administrators, and did other really bad stuff.
Now these starry eyed libtard young idiots they hired to replace the veteran teachers they drove out have signed, en masse, a letter requesting that the NYPD be ousted from the schools and the security agents, and that the money then be used to fund classes promoting "black and brown heritage", "restorative justice", and other ABSURD libtard nonsense.
The schools have made extremely tiny "improvements" in reading, math, etc., most of which I suspect is simply by jiggling numbers rather than actual improvement. Can you imagine what would happen if the ONLY thin blue line preventing total chaos is eliminated by the libtard earnest young teachers and administrators asking the NYPD to leave the schools?
There is no greater greed than that of the educational system.
There will not BE any schools if the police are defunded, you over educated dunces.
Schools?
Don’t you mean the breakfast and lunch program?
Just confirms how many teachers are commies.
Liberals are truly mentally ill and the greatest threat by far to our nation.
NY already spends the most in the nation on the bloated education bureaucracy - 89% HIGHER per student than national average. Lets make it an even 100%!
Hahaha. So, the people who demand accountability can't even be accountable.
Funds, what funds? NY is broke.
Fixed it.
ROFL. Yea, that’s who you want to give more money to after seeing the pitiful job they’ve done over decades.
I have a much better idea- Let’s defund ALL “public” schools, K-12 plus all state colleges. Look at the total amount of cash that will free up!
The police should get a list of all the educators address and then send flyers to all their neighbors stating (whatever gender they think they are)____________ your neighbor is an educator that believes the police should be de-funded, are you okay with no police? Has ____________ discussed or asked your opinion about no police protection in your city?
I’m willing to be a goodly number of neighbors would be up for kicking some educator ass!
The violence is organized via the universities. Fire the culprits. They are easy to identify. They can’t keep their mouths shut.
there is no greater greed than socialist, racist thugs believing they have moral superiority over anyone else.
In our little town in California, the free Breakfast and lunch programs have continued apace, even though all the schools are closed.
And by divert to education, they mean to their pay and pensions.
Sorry for you sane NYers; but maybe your city needs to burn and have anarchy before sanity returns. The majority of the people voted it in. Let them stew in it.
“In our little town in California, the free Breakfast and lunch programs have continued apace, even though all the schools are closed”
That’s the case most everywhere. It was one of the first “issues” Los Angeles county officials were worried about when Pretty Boy Newsome shut down the State. “Who’s gonna feed the children” Obviously not the Parents, that would require they take responsibility for something.
The schools don’t need funds.
In fact ,we can cut school funding now that parents have discovered home schooling and tele-schooling. Think of all the tax dollars property owners will save.
