I watched this the other day. Good stuff and I love his presentation. If nothing else he got himself countless hours of entertaining squirrel watching.

I have certainly grown to admire them! I tried an experiment, capturing squirrels to see how many I could capture before the fill rate of other squirrels replacing the ones I trapped and transported to a new home...

I got up to thirteen, and then it just leveled out, so I figured that was it.

Interestingly, my wife was laughing at me because one squirrel was getting the best of me. It figured out how to get the peanuts without tripping the trap. So, after a couple of times (He was digging under and pulling the peanuts out) I put a little dentist cup with peanut butter in it.

He somehow dragged it to the side and licked it clean, leaving the cup in the cage.

My wife found all of this quite funny, so I poked holes in the cup and tie-wrapped it in the center of the cage.

That got him.

But, before it got him, I caught something else, something I didn’t think I would.

A Blue Jay.

I check the trap, and saw the Blue Jay fluttering around inside and felt awful. Blue Jays are my favorite bird by far, and I didn’t even think one would go in there.

But he did.

So when I went out to release him/her, it was lying on its back with its talons in the cage side, and just stopped moving when I walked up. It just froze there looking at me.

I opened the front of the trap, and after a few seconds it flew out. It didn’t fly away though. It flew right up into a small Weeping Cherry about ten feet up and sat there looking at me.
