Man behind Sweden’s voluntary coronavirus lockdown admits plan’s flaws

Sweden’s top infectious disease expert admitted Wednesday that his controversial coronavirus strategy of avoiding a strict lockdown resulted in too many deaths, according to a report.

As the country’s fatality rate soars, its chief epidemiologist Anders Tegnell — whose light-touch approach left many businesses and schools open as the pandemic raged — told Swedish Radio he should have implemented stricter policies.

“If we were to encounter the same illness with the same knowledge that we have today, I think our response would land somewhere in between what Sweden did and what the rest of the world has done,” Tegnell told the station. “Clearly, there is potential for improvement in what we have done.”

Earlier this week, Sweden’s death rate per capita emerged as the highest in the world, according to the Guardian. At 43 fatalities per 100,000, it has far surpassed neighboring countries such as Denmark and Norway, which have imposed tougher stay-at-home orders.

Well, let’s compare “fatality rates” over a longer period and get a better/truer picture of which approach(es) work best.

He gave the people of Sweden more freedom. He did not stop them from doing social distancing and wearing masks as necessary.

And doing those things - if and when necessary - is not just a responsibility of those who are not so vulnerable, it is a personal responsibility of those who are more vulnerable as well as a professional responsibility for those who care for more vulnerable people. Doing any of those things does not require a government making folks do them. People can protect themselves if they need and desire to, and people concerned about others, and unsure of their own status, can be protective towards those they must be in close contact with. With freedom YOU get to make choices.

Swedish folks made their individual choices. THEY could have chosen better, apparently.

I don’t think the Swedish people blame the government too much.

Yes. If there is a “2nd round” starting Nov, Dec, into Jan THEN we will see how we and others perform and can find out if Sweden at that time is doing better, or not. That will be more appropriate for judging Sweden’s strategy as it was a strategy for the long term more than the immediate.

“It’s all Bullsh*t” – 3 Leaks that Sink the Covid Narrative!:
May 31, 2020

In recent days a series of leaks across the globe have further shown the “official line” on coronavirus does not hold water.

The science of the coronavirus is not disputed. It is well documented and openly admitted:

Most people won’t get the virus.
Most of the people who get it won’t display symptoms.
Most of the people who display symptoms will only be mildly sick.
Most of the people with severe symptoms will never be critically ill.
And most of the people who get critically ill will survive.
This is borne out by the numerous serological studies which show, again and again, that the infection fatality ratio is on par with flu.

There is no science – and increasingly little rational discussion – to justify the lockdown measures and overall sense of global panic.

It’s always good to get official acknowledgement of the truth, even if it has to be leaked.

Here are three leaks showing that those in power knew that the coronavirus poses no threat, and in no way justifies the lockdown that is going to destroy the livelihoods of so many.

1. “IT’S ALL BULLSHIT!”
On May 26th Dr Alexander Myasnikov, Russia’s head of coronavirus information, gave an interview to former-Presidential candidate Ksenia Sobchak in which he apparently let slip his true feelings.

Believing the interview over, and the camera turned off, Myasnikov said:

It’s all bullshit […] It’s all exaggerated. It’s an acute respiratory disease with minimal mortality. Why has the whole world been destroyed? That I don’t know,”

2. “COVID-19 CANNOT BE DESCRIBED AS A GENERALLY DANGEROUS DISEASE”
According to an e-mail leaked to Danish newspaper Politiken, the Danish Health Authority disagree with their government’s approach to the coronavirus. They cover it in two articles here and here (For those who don’t speak Danish, thelocal.dk have covered the story too).

There’s a lot of interesting information there, not least of which is the clear implication that politicians appear to be pressing the scientific advisors to overstate the danger (they did the same thing in the UK), along with the decision of some civil servants to withhold data from the public until after the lockdown had been extended.

But by far the most important quote is from a March 15th e-mail [our emphasis]:

The Danish Health Authority continues to consider that covid-19 cannot be described as a generally dangerous disease, as it does not have either a usually serious course or a high mortality rate,”

On March 12th the Danish parliament passed an emergency law which – among many other things – decreased the power of the Danish Health Authority, demoting it from a “regulatory authority” to just an “advisory” one.

3. “A GLOBAL FALSE ALARM”
Earlier this month, on May 9th, a report was leaked to the German alternate media magazine Tichys Einblick titled “Analysis of the Crisis Management”.

The report was commissioned by the German department of the interior, but then its findings were ignored, prompting one of the authors to release it through non-official channels.

The fall out of that, including attacks on the authors and minimising of the report’s findings, is all very fascinating and we highly recommend this detailed report on Strategic Culture.
We’re going to focus on just the reports conclusions, including [our emphasis]:

The dangerousness of Covid-19 was overestimated: probably at no point did the danger posed by the new virus go beyond the normal level.

The danger is obviously no greater than that of many other viruses. There is no evidence that this was more than a false alarm.

During the Corona crisis the State has proved itself as one of the biggest producers of Fake News.

After being attacked in the press, and suspended from his job, the leaker and other authors of the report released a joint statement, calling on the government to respond to their findings.

If the current crisis was being approached rationally by all parties, these leaks would seal the debate.

Evidence is piling up that the people in charge knew, from the very beginning, that the virus was not dangerous.

The question remaining is: Why are these leaks happening now?

Freedom is never a mistake.

It turns out a fair number of Freepers are against freedom when push comes to shove. Some like to post statistics and gloat about how they were right, the governors all needed to assume dictatorial powers nah nah nah nah nah! Disheartening.

RE: Man behind Sweden’s voluntary coronavirus lockdown admits plan’s flaws

I see, and the men behind the total lockdown in other European Countries and in New York City ( a population almost the size of Sweden ) do not admit to their plan’s flaws... therefore, what follows?

That the European Country’s and NYC’s plans had no flaws and are considered successes?

At 43 fatalities per 100,000, it has far surpassed neighboring countries such as Denmark and Norway, which have imposed tougher stay-at-home orders.

As of June 4th:

Spain: 57.0 deaths per 100,000
UK: 56.6 deaths per 100,000
Italy: 55.2 deaths per 100,000

Last month my 75 year old mother - who had MAJOR heart surgery last July - contracted covid (she tested positive). She had muscle aches for one day, diarrhea for 3 days, a low grade fever for several days. She is now completely recovered. She was never sick enough to spend the day in bed.

My daughters and I were around her before we realized she was sick and none of us got sick. I know that many others have not fared as well, but this has certainly given me food for thought.

This is BS....Sweden’s actual mortality rate (deaths per 100,000 people) is less than many countries that locked down. That is all that matters.

I think is is not the truth. They are not the highest deaths per million in the world. Not close. And he said they could have done a better job with old folks homes. Sweden is not at all regretting keeping their economy open. They now have the best economy of Europe. This article is fake news.

Not bad at all. Just over 430 per million is a nothing burger. Better than New York. What is missing in all this discussions is blooming perspective.

People in warmer climes like Equador are getting Covid by the score. The virus seems to not be so temperature sensitive as cold and flu viruses are. So there is theoretically no reason why spikes of disease outbreaks couldn’t happen at anytime...summer or winter.

Polio broke out in clusters...winter or summer, so did small pox and measles.

So forget about “waves”...Corona is not an influenza.

NY Post quoting The Guardian!

“Earlier this week, Sweden’s death rate per capita emerged as the highest in the world, according to the Guardian. At 43 fatalities per 100,000, it has far surpassed neighboring countries such as Denmark and Norway”

Statista not updated for 100,000 stats, but easy to divide the following by 10:

Statista: Belgium 844.65; UK 597.51; Spain 480.60; Italy 556.02; Sweden 446.03:

Statista: Coronavirus (COVID-19) deaths worldwide per one million population as of June 4, 2020, by country
https://www.statista.com/statistics/1104709/coronavirus-deaths-worldwide-per-million-inhabitants/

couldn’t the NY Post just check The Guardian’s lie?
besides, Sweden should have an exponential explosion of deaths...and they don’t. period.

Perhaps Natalie is feeling the need to get some attention. Otherwise, I haven’t noticed NY Post riding the COVID-19 train.

Agreed, some basic research will show that Sweden is no worse off than those that locked down.
