The wife of Derek Chauvin, the Minneapolis police officer charged in the death of a man in custody, has filed for divorce.

Chauvin is the white officer who was seen on video kneeling for several minutes on the neck of George Floyd, a handcuffed black man who pleaded for air until he lost consciousness. Chauvin was fired, along with three other police officers at the scene, and has been criminally charged.

According to a statement released by a Minneapolis lawyer, Derek Chauvin’s wife, Kellie Chauvin, “is devastated by Mr. Floyd’s death and her utmost sympathy lies with his family, with his loved ones and with everyone who is grieving this tragedy.”

The statement says that “she respectfully requests that her children, her elder parents, and her extended family be given safety and privacy during this difficult time.”

Kellie Chauvin was crowned Mrs. Minnesota in 2018. She has children from a previous marriage. She holds an active real estate license, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Derek Chauvin was charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter after the video showed him kneeling for nearly nine minutes on the neck of Floyd, suspected of passing a counterfeit bill at a convenience store on Memorial Day.

Floyd’s death has sparked protests, some of them violent, across the country.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Searched this one and didn't see anything other than from NYP that she was considering divorce.

Wonder what has to be going on in Derek's mind as he sees the results of his action giving so many dirtbags reason to tear apart this country.

What’s more, anything she knows about the relationship between the two men will no longer be protected by the marriage exemption from testimony ploy.

That may be what’s kept Bill & Hill together so long

A spouse can’t be FORCED to testify against their spouse but it’s done every day. How do you think you get orders of protection or a divorce etc etc

So much for “stand by your man”.

In this case, it makes sense. it shows to the masses, that she is leaving him, which moves her and her kids out of harms way.

Or...maybe she's been wanting to and this is a good time ? ;^)

Could be a way of protecting assets before the lawsuits hit too.

Or she’s doing this at his request, for her own safety. Officially ending the marriage is not necessarily ending the relationshi

More white guilt or smoke screen in any event the peaceful protests have to end sometime. The enablers are elected officials that have a tingly legs when the name streets.
No looting means no shooting around my property.

I'm pretty sure Kellie saw this coming and was just, plain scared to react because her brother AND her husband were both part of a band of brothers.

At least ONE life is saved because of this tragedy.

Thats my thought. He knows no matter what the criminal case does, the civil case will destroy his financials

Or he killed someone known to him and she couldn’t abide by it any longer. That works too

Which man? This is at least her second husband.

The following things are facts:

Police officers commit domestic violence at two to four times the rate of non-police.

Chauvin has a documented history of violence.

The women filed for divorce on the very first night Chauvin was held in custody.

The spousal privilege does not apply in an action between spouses; otherwise, Minnesota prohibits testimony concerning spousal communications, even after divorce, without the consent of the defending spouse.

Split the assets before the civil suit is filed.

You are correct. Those are specific exemptions to spousal immunity. There are several more. It’s not absolute.

Derek Chauvin is an actor, listed on IMDB. It says his wife filed for divorce on March 29, 2020. Planning ahead?
