Jon Ronsons book So Youve Been Publicly Shamed came out in 2015. It may be the first in depth series of interviews on people who have had their reputations and lives ruined by the return of public shaming through the internet, social media and Twitter.

You used to be shamed for having, or causing to have, a child born out of wedlock. There was a way around that, marriage, but that went by the wayside because it was judgmental and look where we are today. Now people are shamed just for saying a wrong word and that is considered progress,
Not to worry. Following CW-II, public shaming of libs will not need a book. Madame Guillotine will do just fine.
We need to shame them.
I got digitally hate mobbed for comparing mask shaming to slut shaming. That both were driven by concern for public health and appropriate role modeling. That sexually transmitted diseases were debilitating and even lethal, and the people doing the bullying were driven by concern for the public.
It did not go over well.
But others do make the parallel. Hence the Muslims saying, “We’re all niqabis now.” That covering up is moral and you’re evil if you don’t do it ... or force others to do so.
Obviously, I am a white male. I wear one of my Veteran hats and never a mask unless the business I have to use requires one. I like the idea of maintaining an identity offensive to most in Eugene Oregon.
I’m a Vietnam vet. Hollywood has attempted to shame me every year since.
I’m still here, still thumbing my nose at them!
How is it obvious? Just curious if I missed something.
Good for you! Give them Hell!
I may be 1/16 black, but none of that physical appearance carried forward from my great-grandmother. People would always pick Northern European when they saw me.
Ah. It’s obvious to people who see you. OK. Thanks.
That was a good comparison that pointed out their likely hypocrisy. I can see why they reacted badly. LOL.
Smear campaigns are a stock tactic of sociopaths and malignant narcissists. Personally I don’t care what others say about me. I’ve been targeted multiple times. I just don’t give the aggressor the desired reaction, keep my cool. More often than not people will see the bully for what he is. If not, move on and don’t look back.
