“The guy who pushed the gay thing and the no coupons etc. and no deals ruined this company.”
i think it was getting rid of the coupons that really sent them into an endless tailspin into bankruptcy, that and changing the types of clothing they carried at least once a year, thereby guaranteeing zero consistency and confusing and frustrating customers; the two-mommy and two-daddy advertising was the icing on the bankruptcy cake ... JC Penny ought to be a case study in business schools about how a string of extremely bad management decisions will manage a retail company right into bankruptcy ...
Last time I was in Penneys was about 6 years ago. I was looking for a certain type of shoes for father in law. The one here is in the mall and I never go to the mall so I was surprised that I didnt hear a word of English. Mexican salespeople and Mexican shoppers I left quickly. Lol
Once upon a time JCP was a good place to shop for those of us men that stick to the Big & Tall section. They had a good selection of larger sizes, in their own area, at reasonable prices, and with lots of sales and clearance items. Though curiously they never had any men’s underwear bigger then XL - I once asked a clerk if fat people were supposed to go commando.
Then when the gay guy took over they still had a B&T section but there was nothing in it I would have taken for free and prices were through the roof. Still no drawers I could wear either. So I quit going there. I’ve checked a few times since but haven’t seen much improvement.
We used to use the JCP charge card back in the day also, but they got militant with late fees - we’d send payment 10 days ahead of the due date and they would claim it was late and charge like $40 late fee. So we told them to stick it and took our business elsewhere.
If youre over 40 and remember the JCPenney catalogue you HAVE to go to this link

Filing is one thing, achieving it is another.
Sears, Montgomery Wards, JC Penny going going almost all gone.
That made me laugh...
Kodak was a character played by Telly Savalas in the 1970s, a tough cop who liked lollypops.
Kojak.
I was just trying to have some fun!
OK, I was wondering. Sometimes it’s hard to tell in the flow of a convo if humor is afoot. :-P
Worked at Penney’s.....this is just another stall on their part...it was in deep trouble ten years ago....they just keep changing CEO’s hoping for a different outcome that never happens. So they file for restructuring time and again.
JC’s professional mens clothing is well known in the fashion industry for being the next best choice to Designer Suites etc.
I was wroking there when they change dover to spewing the liberal agenda....going Green, using Homo’s in ads.....it was awful I tell ya. Customers were hotly complaining... was less than a year after I left the company. No longer enjoyed the once great atmosphere.
