Contreras is a FISA judge since May 2016.
What if he signed the FISA warrant that authorized the spying of Flynn ?

and what if the recusal could be as simple as this:

Contreras was hired by Eric Holder in 1994 to the D.C. US Attorney's office.

Flynn's original attornies work at Covington.
Holder was a partner in Covington until he became USAG.
He went back to Covington after he left office and still works for them.

IIRC, it was the “lovers” Page and Strokes (I know it not spelled correctly-cause he’s a DERP)texting about a plan to see him at some get together.

And I think after their texts were made public, was when Contreras was off the case - maybe.
