Owl stuck in power line in Solvang
The Santa Barbara County Fire Department responded to an owl stuck in a high voltage line in Solvang on Tuesday.
On Tuesday afternoon, Santa Barbara County Fire assisted PG&E after reports of an owl stuck in their power lines.
Firefighters arrived to see an owl tangled in high voltage lines on Mission Drive in Solvang.
Firefighters worked with PG&E crews along with Santa Barbara County Animal Control to help safely remove the owl from the lines.
The owl was safely removed and taken to the Ojai Raptor Center in Ventura County for treatment.
Shocking!
Good work guys! thanks for the pics Nick
Owl be looking for wise cracks.
Get that owl some split pea soup
Advice to owl: Just don’t cross the line(s).
Did you all see that? Thats a n95 mask they are putting on the bird in the last photo.
Pardon my ignorance...but why didnt owl get zapped? Sure glad it got out. Hope for full recovery.
Who?
You."
Did you know some owls arent that wise?
Thought the windmills would get it first.
I'm surprised this owl didn't go POOF as well. That's a big wingspan.
An osprey nest on Lake Coeur d'Alene caught fire a few days ago. The birds weren't killed. The power company built a new platform for them nearby and even relocated part of the burned-out nest to the new platform. Osprey mate for life, but they split up during winter migration with the agreement to meet up again next spring at the nest. Sometimes Mrs. Osprey doesn't show up and, after waiting two or three weeks, Mr. Osprey gets hitched to a younger model. Then the original Mrs. Osprey shows up fashionably late and has to get out her claws to evict the new, younger model Mrs. Osprey. That's when the fireworks start.
Buellton.
But close.
It nice to see a happy ending feel good story for a change. The Owl is lucky!

Same exit. All the college girls I took to Solvang for the night too, man, those days.
Damned Lucky !!!
Got to work one morning and there was no Power inside of the Store So We go check the Circuit Breakers and none are tripped but just so We can tell the Power Company Yes We checked them. They send out a Service Guy and as We come out the backdoor to wait for them.
To pass the time Were looking up at the Pole, Lines & Transformers (3 Phase Power) and then We see the problem Mr. Owl landed on one of the Lines BEFORE the Transformers and had landed on it AND also contacted the Ground Lead for the Pole.
The Lineman gets there and surveys the situation and says Well that musta hurt for a second. And He gets in the Bucket, goes up and takes Linemans Cutters and cuts off the one leg on the line and puts the Owl in the Bucket and the pulls the other leg off the wire, lowers the Bucket and hands Us the Owl and the loose leg. The ZOT !!! had blown the one leg off the Body and left it on the line.
The Lineman got new Fuse Links and We were back online.
We put the one blown off leg on top of the Breaker Box.
You got back a live, one-legged, owl?
Oh no, it was Flash Fried.
