I was born, raised and lived in Kansas until the age of 25. I have long believed the state song should be changed from Home on the Range to Dust In The Wind.

Brings back memories of Homecoming dance 1973. Music is etched in my brain. Lyrics express a lot - to me.

After a couple members became Christians, a couple friends of mine met them. Every time the band came to town, they call my friends and see how many tickets they needed. I only got to go once. Row five, backstage passes, hung out with the band.

Vastly underrated rock band. Thanks for posting this. Brings back memories of me playing air guitar in my Star Wars pajamas.

Yes, great, haunting, beautiful song, wonderful harmonies, exquisitely well done. These guys had talent and then some, and put it all together so well.

Check our Phil Ehart's Drum Kit in this video from their '84 tour.
Carry On My Wayward Son (Live)
They are Chrome over 9-ply rock maple Slingerland Magnum Force. There were only 5 kits like this built, commissioned by Nigel Olson for Elton's '84 world tour. Nigel got two kits, Phil got two and the other went to the NAMM show that year. Guess who owns the consecutive serial numbered 5th kit Chrome Cannons?

Love this song. Cruising around in my 77 Camaro Type LT with T tops off. Stereo way past 10.

You also need to give props to
Portrait (He Knew). I listen to that just for the synth/strings/drum bridge in it.

As a person who grew up in St. Louis but went KANSAS University and settled in Overland Park, Kansas they have always been in the top 3 of favorite bands. I was a Child of the 70s.

Ha! This is the song that has a riff that sounds just like one in a song that Journey released the same year called “I’m Gonna Leave You.”
There’s been a chicken/egg discussion going on since.

Great song. The original bandmates met in Topeka, Kansas and formed group. Lots of changes though over the years with lineups. 70s version was art rock and improvisational. 80s was more hard rock, pop and ballads. 70s version had Dust In The Wind and Carry On My Warward Son as the two biggest hits. 80s version did Hold On and Going Thru The Motions type songs.
