MIAMI A shipment of 1 million face masks en route to South Florida for firefighters was confiscated last week by the federal government, Miami-Dades top emergency management official said.
Frank Rollason, the director of emergency management for Miami-Dade County, told WLRN on Wednesday that the masks were for firefighters who planned to begin at-home new coronavirus testing for homebound Miami-Dade residents who can't make it to drive-thru testing sites.

No details - just so that they can blame the Trump admin
They need a MILLION masks for at home testing? LOLOL
A million masks for firefighters under the excuse they will be doing home testing....seems....excessive. Could the Feds be suspecting corruption?
Hmmmmm.
Perhaps for a Million Mask March?
why would Miami-Dade firefighters need 1 million face masks?
I have an ad blocker, so I can’t read the original story. Does the article say WHY this was done? Was the agency contacted for a response or explanation?
I smell a rat too. Perhaps defective products as in Australia and Denmark?
They should let them have them. By the time they are done counting them there will be 2 million.
Sounds BS y.
Definitely for resale.
CONFISCATED??? Tell me more about this armed robbery by the Feds.
The N95 masks were in the process of being secured when the vendor notified MDFR that the product was no longer available, the statement read. MDFR was notified by the vendor that they will be attempting to secure another allocation from another one of their 3M partners. According to the vendor, the Federal Government was looking at securing a million masks as well, POSSIBLY AFFECTING THE ORDER that was on its way to Miami-Dade County. The statement noted it could not confirm the validity of the federal government landing the masks instead of Miami-Dade, a scenario thats been the subject of widespread complaints from state and local governments throughout the coronavirus crisis.
In its own statements, FEMA did not address Rollasons allegation of federal intervention to buy masks headed for the county.
FEMA is not seizing or taking personal protective equipment (PPE) from state or local governments, hospitals, or any entities who are lawfully engaged in transactions through which these resources are distributed, the agency said. FEMA reached out to our contacts at Miami-Dade Fire Department this afternoon. We were told the shipment was never sent to them by the vendor.
New mask as you go house to house.
It turns out Miami Dade county was trying to buy a million masks from a vendor and the vendor said they couldn't deliver because they'd already been sold to the Feds. They didn't confiscate their masks, they just bought them first.
Using their logic I can claim that someone stole my prime rib if someone buys the last piece before I get there.
Way down in the story we find out that they ARE able to get masks but they must get them in smaller shipments so that other areas of the country can also get some. They also mention that they HAVE NO SHORTAGE OF MASKS AT PRESENT! Scary headline that implies the Feds took their masks and they have none, when in fact they just aren’t being allowed to stockpile at the expense of others.
1,000,000 masks...?
Do they leave a package on the doorstep if the testing target isn't home?
1 million masks for local firefighters?
They should have figured out a better excuse for their mask-hoarding project.
One for each firefighter for each house he goes to test the residents, and one for each resident in each of those houses. Plus they may be planning to do another round in the Fall and are stocking up for each viral bloom.
