The mayor of a northern California city, who recently stepped down after comparing supporters of President Donald Trump to members of the Ku Klux Klan, has been killed in a plane crash, reports say.Neon Nettle reported last week that Auburn Mayor William Kirby had compared the president and his supporters to the KKK, triggering a backlash online which prompted him to step down.

I usually think of V-tailed doctor killers referring to Bonanzas. The doctor we know who almost did himself and his wife in was flying a Navion which is a pretty tame aircraft, but he tried to get it off the ground too soon on a warm day and mushed in ground effect all the way to the end of the runway where he hit a tree. If he had graduated from a Cherokee instead of a 172 he probably would have realized what was going on since the same type of mishap is common in a lower powered Cherokee.

I am 71 years old and a flight instructor. I am a safer pilot today than when I was young. I know my limitations that I did not know when I was young.

The day will come in the next few years that younger instructors will come to me and say it is time to “hang it up.” I will then just get in the front seat and let one of the students I taught to fly be my safety pilot and never instruct again. I will just fly.

I respect your view. I disagree that older folks are fir to fly twin jet past 65. That’s really what I’m talking about. response times aren’t there and avionics are too much. Bad experiences with guys that I am sure were great but too old for the trade.
