In the six days after top Chinese officials secretly determined they likely were facing a pandemic from a new coronavirus, the city of Wuhan at the epicenter of the disease hosted a mass banquet for tens of thousands of people; millions began traveling through for Lunar New Year celebrations.
President Xi Jinping warned the public on the seventh day, Jan. 20. But by that time, more than 3,000 people had been infected during almost a week of public silence, according to internal documents obtained by The Associated Press and expert estimates based on retrospective infection data.
Six days.
That delay from Jan. 14 to Jan. 20 was neither the first mistake made by Chinese officials at all levels in confronting the outbreak, nor the longest lag, as governments around the world have dragged their feet for weeks and even months in addressing the virus.
But the delay by the first country to face the new coronavirus came at a critical time the beginning of the outbreak. Chinas attempt to walk a line between alerting the public and avoiding panic set the stage for a pandemic that has infected almost 2 million people and taken more than 126,000 lives.
This is tremendous, said Zuo-Feng Zhang, an epidemiologist at the University of California, Los Angeles. If they took action six days earlier, there would have been much fewer patients and medical facilities would have been sufficient. We might have avoided the collapse of Wuhans medical system.

I’d bet my house it was a lot longer than that.
Thanks, you saved me from writing the same thing.
There was no way in hell China was going to skip their Lunar New Year. Didn’t matter if millions died. Besides, at that point, the virus was release, so what did it matter anyway (paraphrasing b*tch Hillary).
Yep. Six days wouldnt have made much difference. 16, 26, 36 or 46 days could have prevented this whole sordid thing.
according to internal documents obtained by The Associated Press and expert estimates based on retrospective infection dataFunny how the AP was able to get internal documents, and then filter them through expert(s) to get estimates. Assuming they actually have such documents, I do wonder what they really say, myself.
“6 days”. LOL!
Amazing that the CCP owns the Western media.
funny thought found online-
After all the dumb things I’ve done in life, i will be ticked if i die because I touched my face
China committed a crime. They were legally obligated by health treaties to tell the world immediately.
“This is TREMENDOUS, said Zuo-Feng Zhang, an epidemiologist at the University of California, Los Angeles”
huh?
It was definitely more then 6 days. They were setting Trump up. Had the Who claim no person to person, that caused a short delay in shutting down flights from China. The plan was to get America infected, try to persuade Trump with Who lies, then a big explosion like in New York, would have happened on west coast.
A single day is very important. With respect to logarithmic growth. One day can cut the total significantly since growth more or less doubles last couple of days.
They knew by December when over 3,000 medical workers in Wuhan got sick.
That's praising with faint damnation.
When you have a population of over a billion peeps, what’s a few million? /s
Thank you! They knew they had a problem long before January 14th.
My Doc said he thought this thing started last October.
Seems unlikely. We wont know until we have mass antibody testing and analysis of that data.
