Due to athletic department budget restrictions amid the coronavirus pandemic, Cincinnati has shut down its men's soccer program.

Director of Athletics John Cunningham announced the university's decision Tuesday, which is effective immediately. Cincinnati will honor soccer players' scholarships for the duration of their academic careers and allow them to be released immediately from the Bearcats' roster if they wish to transfer to another program.

Let's see if Title IX protects womens' programs if, as this article stats, other colleges could start cutting programs.

“Let’s see if Title IX protects womens’ programs if, as this article stats, other colleges could start cutting programs.”

This is kind of fun. You know what Title IX doesn’t protect? Loss of income from men’s basketball and football. Men’s BB and FB carry the load for everything else.

Reality is a tough intruder when you’re trying to impose social justice.

Mens’ basketball and football are the money makers for most schools. The article also mentions programs at different schools could be jeopardized. It can lead to a complicated process and perhaps Title IX could be involved.

I don’t think any sport legally open to both sexes should be considered either male or female under Title VII. Women have the same opportunity to play NCAA football as do men. They — along with the vast majority of male students — simply aren’t good enough to make the team.

Just as soccer is on the rise in Cincinnati.
They have an MLS franchise now.

Revert to a club program. Problem solved. All college sports should be on a club basis anyhow.

I recall the Cincinnati Kids who were partially owned by Pete Rose (Happy Birthday to Pete, today) during the late 70s/early 80s. There was mention of the team in one episode of WKRP in Cincinnati.

Besides some Div. 1 football or basketball programs, college sports are an expensive which just costs taxpayers and students more.

The (with luck) financial hurricane that is hitting universities hopefully will fix many of the problems of the high-cost, left-wing, useless degree, bureaucratic higher education-industrial complex.

No doubt Gretchen would try something similar if she could get away with it.

Title IX doesn’t mandate programs does it? Just equality.
So if you had no sports for men or women you’d be in compliance.
