I saw a presentation making the claim that the real problem is not just the lack of power production (in the event of everyone switching to electric) it’s also the distributed residential transformers. They wouldn’t be able to handle the loads.

...therefore, the ICE cars aren’t going disappear anytime soon.

Yes, residential transformers are built to cool down at night under less use.
